are you sure that isn't just the Cache?
those HDDs have a 32Mb Cache.
Im 100% sure dude, the capacity of the HDD is showing as 32mb ! doing my effin head in :'(
what does it say the capacity is in the bios?
Apparently its a common problem with gigabyte mobos
http://forums.hexus.net/scan-care-he...ity-error.html
Ive fixed it, found a really really simple way of doing it. Ide write a quick how to if it could be put somewhere, i can guarantee somebody will have the same problem.
I think scan should put a note on their site saying something like " This hard drive has been known to have issues with gigabyte motherboards ".
Actually its down to the user to research any known incompatibilities/problems unless the manufacturer has specifically issued a warning to retailers.
Sounds stupid that when its clear there is a problem with gigabyte mobo's !
yeah, but if Scan know that there's a problem, it's nice of them to tell us, isn't it?
they don't have to though, you're right.
I agree about doing your research...i normally do, but figured it was only a hdd, 20 seconds job and its done, working. Not hours and hours trying to get it to read bigger than 32mb !
explanation: gigabyte mobos use HPA (Host Protected Area) in HDD to store copy of bios just to restore it in case of main bios failure (it's called "Virtual Dual BIOS" as far as i remember).
so that's the reason.
and this Virtual Dual Bios can be very useful, when main bios goes corrupt, then no need to send to RMA
Allo!
I bought the 500Gb version also from Scan today. I have an Asus motherboard (P5Q-E) though and the hard drive is showing as being 130Gb. What was your solution to the problem? Is it a cross-board issue?
Regards,
Lewis

Download the bootable ISO, HDAT2ISO_4_6b3.RAR on the download page
Burn the .iso to a disc, restart pc, boot to disc then follow Question 1 on the FAQ page
Should work perfect, its what i did and it went from showing 32mb to 1000gb

All I need to do is burn the ISO don't I? I don't need to fiddle with any boot options? (I'm using CDBurnerXP)
