Problems setting up RAID0
I am trying to set up a RAID on my XP Pro system to use for encoding rather than storage. I have two brand new Samsung F1 500GB drives (XP is installed on a 320GB F1).
I have plugged these in to SATA ports 5 & 6 (no luck when trying 2 & 3) on my board (ASUS M3A78-CM). When I enter the BIOS and change "OnChip SATA Type" from SATA to RAID the computer doesn't get any further than the Windows XP welcome screen before rebooting.
Any help would be much appreciated...
(Sorry if this is a cross post - I think I posted it in the wrong forum before)
Re: Problems setting up RAID0
You *may* have hit on a problem when you change your SATA controller type - always best to do this before install if your system drive is using the same controller that the array will be using.
When you boot do you get the option to create an array before the XP splash screen? You should be able to enter the RAID BIOS by pressing a specific key at that point.
Re: Problems setting up RAID0
Ctrl+I (i think)
or Ctrl+l
Re: Problems setting up RAID0
Yep, CTRL+F. Then I set up the two 500GBs as a RAID0 on LD 2 and still get the reboot.
I'm thinking it may be due to installing XP before changing the drive configuration as well. Could be time for yet another install
Re: Problems setting up RAID0
You *might* be able to sort a way around it - if you change the BIOS setup back to how it was can you get back into Windows? There was a technique to allow you to enable AHCI on Intel chipset boards without a reinstall, no idea if it will work here. Search the forums for "enable AHCI without reinstall" and you should find it, but make sure you're backed up first.
Re: Problems setting up RAID0
UPDATE:
Problem resolved by using nLite to make a Windows XP disc with the RAID drivers on it and then doing a fresh install with the BIOS set to RAID before starting.
Thanks to those who helped and advised...
