IP35 PRO hangs on BIOS POST code "od" - not covered in manual appendix

Hello

I returned home from work today and booted my computer as normal. Unfortunately the boot failed, hanging on POST code "0d". I checked the manual but there is no desription for this particular code.

I rebooted the PC, but this time it hung on code "C1". The manual tells me this is:

Detect memory
-Auto-detection of DRAM size, type and ECC
-Auto-detection of L2 cache (socket 7 or below)

I rebooted once more and got the same "C1" code.

After this, I decided to switch off the power supply and disconnect from the mains. I waited a few minutes. I reconnect to the mains and switch on the power supply. The PC is dormant at code "01".

I boot up and it gets past the "C1" but hangs again on "0d".

I installed new drivers this morning for my nVidia 8800 GTX graphics card, which seemed to go fine. I rebooted after install and the PC was fine. I shut down before heading out for work.

On returning, I am presented with the problem above.

I would appreciate any help with this matter.

Reset the CMOS using the lil jumper. :)

judging by the C1 you probably have a RAM problem.

However, it helps others to help you if they know exactly what you are dealing with.
Please supply a full system specification incl. make & models.

I managed to get it up and running last night after several mains reboots. I couldn't see any logical reason why it booted that time and not the previous times. I noticed though that it reached POST code "11" and I got a blackscreen message saying I had an error with the floppy A drive. I don't have a floppy A drive. Then when I tried to boot a couple of times after this I was told that there was a checksum error and would I like to continue or enter setup. I chose to continue and everything booted fine. I then shut down and went to bed.

When I tried to boot this morning, it hung on "E1". I rebooted and was back to the "0d". Rebooting after "0d" gives "C1". Mains rebooting leads me back to "0d".

I have tried jumping the CMOS, which appeared to have no effect.

I will post full specs later today when I return from work. Unfortunately I have run out of time at the moment.

I am currently working from the machine in question, on one stick of RAM as opposed to four.

I took a while to achieve a successful boot. Again, I see no logical reason why it booted up properly when it did. I colour-marked each stick of RAM (red, yellow, green, blue) and tried a boot on each. Initially, I got a combination of C1, 05 and C3 post codes, on separate boots with different sticks, but no successful boot.

I then tried various combinations of sticks, all cominations giving C1.

I was just about to give up when I thought I's try once more time with the blue stick alone, and lo and behold it booted. I straight away performed a system restore to before the display driver install. Unfortunately, when the auto restart kicked in after the roll-back, I was back to C1 on boot. However, I tried a simple manual reboot and here I am writing this.

I am now going to try putting all the other sticks in to see if it works first time. At the very least I seem to be making progress.

could you run Memtest to check your ram?

Down load the ISO and burn it to a CD using Nero or similar. Then swap the BIOS to boot from CD and see if it checks the ram ok

I tried testing each stick separately again in DIMM1.

They are colour marked (red) (yellow) (green) (blue).

Red always hangs on 0d.

Yellow hangs on 05.

Green hangs on C3.

Blue seems ok and the system boots fine on it. The sticks are the originals that came with the system. All are the same type.

I sit possible that I have three bad sticks all at once?

As for the memtest - I don't have any burning software installed :s Are there any quality free packages?

Well, I successfully did memtest with the stick that works ok, and not surprisingly it passed.

I was unable to do it with the others though because the system hangs before the CD boot kicks in, even when I set CD boot priority over the hard disk.

*sigh* time to call it a night and pay a visit to the shop tomorrow.

I had a similar issues with Abit IP35, for some reason it hated Cosair RAM and after initially running with no issue, I had to swap it out for Kingston 800mhz RAM with a 1.8v, I believe that's standard for this board, anything higher like 1066, or 2.0v it spat the dummy! When trying single sticks, it would boot, but then the same issue occurred each time by not posting the next time. The IP35 doesn't have a post code indicator so it was just no beep each time...

Have you set the RAM manually? timings and voltage to their default? (I know it seems like a silly question) and What RAM are you using?:)

Well, dear chap, I'm mystified, (although you now have a copy of Memtest, which you will be able to use in the future.. DONT BIN IT>>... it's awesome)
I know you said you installed new nvidia drivers... and you thought they went well...

and lets face it, the drivers aren't even installed when Memtest runs, as it's a Linux based, cd driven thing.... but did you do ANYTHING else... stuff you're not admitting too ;)

Like.. a BIOS flash on your mobo?

Yes I did flash my mobo, but that was in response to the original problem. The computer worked fine for a good time after that too, so I don't think that was the problem.

I've had my RAM tested in the shop and they tell me that the three sticks are faulty. I don't usually like to take someone else's word for it but right now I don't have much choice :p

I just powered up my system and found the same fault - bios stopped at 0d - turned off mains for 10 seconds and rebooted OK. Nothing changed on my system for about a month (Installed Win7) - no hardware changes ! !! !!!

Wondering why . . .
