3 blue screens a day - is this too hot for my CPU?

As the title suggests I am getting a lot of blue screens at the moment. The most common error being:

    IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

I have been running Core Temp for a day or so now and my CPU is at 45-47 degrees C at idle on both cores.

It is an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ (Brisbane) 3.1GHz not overclocked, with a Scythe Ninja 2 Cooler + Fan

    Thanks in advance

That's not due to the CPU, more likely a duff driver for a nic or fx card, sound card etc.

Whats the file that kicks off the bluescreen, should tell you near the bottom of the memory dump

Re: 3 blue screens a day - is this too hot for my CPU?

I've just had a look at the logs and the last 6 blue screens have been 'probably' caused by the following:

    6. Rtenicxp.sys
    5. ntoskrnl.exe
    4. ntoskrnl.exe
    3. ks.sys
    2. ntoskrnl.exe
    1. usbohci.sys

Re: 3 blue screens a day - is this too hot for my CPU?

    6. Rtenicxp.sys - This is realtek Driver Issue update the drivers

    5. ntoskrnl.exe - This could be caused by any number of windows or hardware faults I would advise rebuilding and stripping the machine down to the bare essentials and adding a bit of hardware at a time to see if anything causes it.

    4. ntoskrnl.exe - Same as above

    3. ks.sys - Kernel streaming (KS) refers to the Microsoft-provided services that support kernel-mode processing of streamed data

    2. ntoskrnl.exe

    1. usbohci.sys - USB drivers, look for updated chipset drivers to get the usb drivers up to date.

With the ntoskrnl and ks screens I would say run a windows repair at least but might be worth doing a complete rebuild with all the latest and greatest drivers you can find for audio, on board sound, lan, chipset, fx, etc etc

Thanks for such a quick reply.

My USB/Firewire is on a Scan PCI card with 5xUSB and 3x1394. Do you know of anywhere I may be able to find updated drivers for this?

My £0.02... I think that's an IRQ error, and it's two devices fighting for an interupt.

Have you put any new hardware in recently?

If you have any PCI cards, move them along one slot. Lets face it... it's free, easy to do, and fast, and might sort it

Re: 3 blue screens a day - is this too hot for my CPU?

No devices are listed as having conflicts in Device Manager - is there another way I can see if the IRQs are conflicting?

I only have two 'normal' PCI slots and these are both in use. One is for the USB/1394 card but the other is used for a BlackMagic SDI video capture card which I have heard likes to have the PCI bus all to itself.

    A likely cause?

Right click on the devices in hardware manager and then click settings and it will generally show you the IRQ of the hardware and what its using.

Some of the USB Host Controllers use the same IRQ

Would expect that. I would try getting newer drivers for all hardware and see what happens

Check your RAM. Run Memtest86+ overnight.

Re: 3 blue screens a day - is this too hot for my CPU?

I have let the RAM test from Microsoft (bootable from CD) run for hours with no errors reported at all.

Does anyone know where I may find newer drivers for the PCI USB/1394 card as it was one of Scan's own products?

    Thanks again

If its a scan rebrand they will be bought in from another company and scans stickers on it. Might be worth dropping them an email or checking the card for any part numbers etc and googling them
