    Re: Major problems

Boot from cd then full format, if not new hard drive time. Press F8 when the bios is there to load the boot menu, before windows gets a chance to open.

    Re: Major problems

If you don't care about losing data, boot from a DBAN CD (link below) and choose quick wipe. It may take a while but that will wipe your entire HDD, including the MBR and any other place the worm could hide. Then, boot from OS disc and reinstall. Also note that some worms spread via USB drives/across networks/on optical media so be careful what you put back into your PC after reinstalling.
    DBAN: http://downloads.sourceforge.net/dba...6.zip?download
Extract the zip archive and burn the iso image to a disc.
    Hope this helps!

    Re: Major problems

To all others that replied, I thank you much for your time, however I have tried the things you'll suggested, I can't tell you how many times I've booted from disc, or tried stepping out of Bios. As for you watercooled, could you be more specific about web site as I can't link to it. I'm reading and writing from the problem comp, its really odd this is the only site that my comp will let me access, all others will load the link, but when I'm in, I can't open anything! Maybe its because I'm in the USA, and you guys are in England, "I have no idearr" as Paul Tuttell Sr. would say on Orange County Choppers. After I get the revised link I will try it, I also have a Laptop. Thanx for your time watercooled, I say again many THANX.

    Re: Major problems

I did post the link to the download but if that doesn't work for some reason try this direct link: http://kent.dl.sourceforge.net/sourc...42900_i386.zip
Do you have any idea what the worm is called/how do you know you have it and what are the symptoms? URL blocking is common for worms but they usually only block things like antivirus websites. If at all possible, download anything you need on another computer.

Both those links work fine here. Sounds like a issue at your end, perhaps download it on another PC if ya got one handy?

    Re: Major problems

Watercooled, the answer to your other question; NOD 32 registers the presents of the worm/Trojan, but cannot clean, heal, remove it. When I called NOD32 they recommended that I reformat to completely remove it. However, with the original query you understand my problem with this is I cannot reformat. As I've reiterated, in the past posts I've tried everything, do you think I should just file 13 it, and buy another. Any thoughts? Thanx Jeff

    Re: Major problems

To all who have posted, the HDD I bought from the suppossed friend just died, i.e. clicking, reading, writing. It could have been the worm, but I doubt it, I think it was bogus to begin with. I've been searching around here for another HDD, found one, 200 Gigs IDE, but I'll forgo the speed to get it running. Will let you'all know the out come. THANX to all that posted, you don't know how much it is appreciated! Will change Bios of course, you can be sure of that. If I have any more problems I will post again. Thanx, Jeff In retrospect, as I think back to the day I purchased said drive I didn't check it very closely, you don't suppose he opened it up, to fix the clicking? He's an IT pro, with 20 plus years experience. I'm just wondering??

    Re: Major problems

Not likely, clicking = virtually dead, no real way of fixing that.

    Re: Major problems

If he opened up the drive, in anything other than a properly designed clean area, he will have borked it completely!

Drive clicking usually means a damaged drive, although it can be indicative of a power supply problem, although that is usually encountered with USB powered drives.

If you have a test meter to hand, you might want to check the voltages at the hdd (with it connected) just to rule that out - but clicking, second hand drive - duff!

Given that drives are relatively cheap, you really are better off getting a new one, which you know is dodgy software free, and has a warranty.

    Re: Major problems

There is generally no need to replace a PC to remove malware. It sounds like the worm has hit that computer pretty hard and it may even be blocking you from downloading DBAN. It's strange you can't download DBAN on another computer but maybe the UK mirror I provided blocks access from the US - unlikely but possible. To try another, closer mirror go to http://www.dban.org/download and download the Version 2 preview release 'for recent Intel and AMD computers' because the 1.0.7 version doesn't work properly on some newer computers. I'm surprised NOD32 didn't stop the worm getting on your computer in the first place. Any idea how it got on there? And what exactly is the worm called by NOD32 - check the logs for more info it should be in a format similar to Type.Win32.Name.Version
