Apogee GTZ should be coming in stock within a week or two, but the XSPC Delta V3 isn't bad either. I'd get a Swiftech MCR-Q rad as they are as thin as the XSPC one but perform way better, and since you're on an i7 you'll need that for the amount of heat they produce.

Re: i7 and Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

Can you provide a link Moogle? The only Swiftech rads I can find are 34mm deep as opposed to the RX240 which is 58.5mm. Or are the thinner Swiftechs better than the XSPC's as i have read some good reviews but would like peoples first hand experience if possible.

Any thoughts on the pump/reservoir? Again I have heard good things on review sites and it seems a cheap and tidy way to go about it.

Also (I forgot to ask before) would a dual rad be ok for a single loop or would it be worth buying an additional 120mm and attach it to the rear of the case?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Ohhh RX my bad, yes they are very good too. Maybe a bit more expensive than Thermochills but it seems all chunky rads with standard fan spacing have that little premium attached to them.

The Swiftech MCR-Q rads do perform at levels very very close to the thicker rads which is quite impressive considering how thin it is. The thicker rads only pull away in performance as you ramp up the fan speeds though.

The Res/Pump will be fine with not so restrictive blocks (I think the Delta V3 is one but I'll check). The Apogee GTZ is an impingement block so it's quite restrictive as is the EK Supreme and may require a more powerful pump (the downside with res/pump combo's) but in turn perform better.

What are you going to be cooling in your loop? If it's just the CPU then the RX will be able to handle it. I'm using a 120.2 for my CPU + NB loop and that will cope fine.

Re: i7 and Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

As I'm just getting into this then starting on just the CPU, I would love to cool my 4870X2 but I would rather wait until the warranty expires before I start ripping off it's cooler as that is a little too expensive to be replacing at this stage.

I've seen the thermal performance of the Delta and Apogee are quite similar but I much prefer the look of the mounting system with the Swiftech and therefore chose that one. You said before that stock will be available in a week or two but any idea why the delay? I tried to see if there were supply problems from Swiftech yesterday but there seemed no mention of it on their forums.

Thanks for your comments on the dual radiator, another reason why i like the idea of watercooling is I can always add to it at a later stage.

Ahh yeah it's always worrying cooling the GPU
The reason why there's no stock is most likely the watercooling shops have run out but they don't just order in parts each time a certain product runs out or the shipping would eat into their margins, so they wait and do bigger bulk orders (of bulk product buys ) and from what I've read (replies from stock requests of the apogee gtz on retailers forums) it'll be back in around 2 weeks. Yeah you can always add another part later on if you want, and if you keep your rad in good condition if you ever decide to sell it (buying a different part) you won't make such a huge loss as most others do on selling hardware parts

Re: i7 and Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

The only reason I asked is because there hardly seems to be stock anywhere and according to Scans website they are overdue stock since the 13th of February. I put a request in the other day for Specialtech to send me an email as soon as they get stock (they are the cheapest I found and with i7 compatability) so I may leave it 2 weeks but undoubtably my eagerness to continue with a new project will get the better of me and I'll just start ordering whatever is available

I just checked and it seems ChilledPC have it in stock (Apogee GTZ), it's the 775 version but you could just buy it and the 1366 backplate from there as well.

They also have the new HeatKiller block which I've been hearing alot about. Going to read a few reviews on it as I think it gives same/better performance as the Swiftech

Re: i7 and Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

Yeh I had seen they had stock (plus OCUK had one the other day as well) but as much as I don't mind spending money on my PC's I'm also something of a bargain hunter so the prospect of spending £52.99 + £10.99 for the mounting seems too expensive compared to THIS, I know it's out of stock but i don't mind waiting to save a few £££.

In all honesty I've never given the Heatkiller any consideration but I guess I'll go read some reviews for myself - I'm especially interested to hear about the Kühlstruktur and also the reason behind the big price hike between the LC and LT versions.

Ahh well that option was if you couldn't wait any longer

It seems the LT version is lighter because it's got a delrin top on instead of full on copper. So it's 150g instead of the 400g and tbh that's what I'd go for because it's cheaper (£35) and you won't get so much tarnish/fingerprints/marks on it

Still trying to find out whether there is a significant difference.

Re: i7 and Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

I'm sure you found it already but the best (ie written in English) review I found is HERE but it doesn't specify whether it's the LC or LT however it does look like an excellent cooler. Just a shame the reviewer hasn't got around to a GTZ comparison yet.

Other than that I have been laughing my way around the comedy of German websites and google translator which hasn't been too helpful other than:

As in the thread Watercool written, we now deliver the LT versions, the three types of coolers are available with all the brackets.

The particular incident of the two quads (not Phenom & Core i7) is the LT version and copper reserve the LC version still achieved very good cooling and is the "higher" models closely on the heels.

This was found HERE and there are 31 pages to work through, I got bored after page 3....

edit - on closer inspection it's probably the more expensive version judging by the pictures but bears no resemblance to either image on ChilledPC's site.

Re: i7 and Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

Ahh yes I seen that one before just couldn't find it again (had the thread bookmarked on XS).
Yeah it's a pity they didn't use the Apogee GTZ. Although I know the GTZ beats the EK Supreme by 1-3c and it is less restrictive than it, so I can conclude it's in between them

Still have no idea if the LT or the LC have any big performance differences.

Re: i7 and Thermalright Ultra 120 extreme

A random comment on a different forum states that the LC is less restrictive than the LT but I'm still struggling to find any test results between the two. However it's late and the Malaysian GP is on at 9AM so I shall continue the hunt later today.

    Again missing out the GTZ

But thanks anyway, seems the LT performs a teeny bit better than the LC but a teeny bit more restrictive.

Ended up reading through 32 pages on the German website to find that! Just really waiting for xtremesystems to come back online before I make a final decision.
