    intel cooler help

    Hi
I am an AMD man and have never had to buy an Intel cooler so here goes.
Sisters 2 year old acer's desktop cpu cooler has broken and i need to get her a new one, are all intel coolers from that time a standard fit i need one with 4 screws that screw through the motherboard(and then i take it into headers from the case) so wht would be the cheapest replacement?
    Thanks
    Robert

    Re: intel cooler help

Sounds like a strange way of fitting a cooler, it screws through the motherboard into headers on the case? :S

Do you know what socket the CPU is? or.. Pentium 4? Core2? (Right click "my computer > properties" or use CPUZ). Simple answer if its P4, socket 478 should do the trick, if its Core2, your looking at socket LGA775. Be aware that some coolers are enormous so if its a small case, mATX etc, consider that. Alot of coolers will also fit onto multiple sockets with various supplied adaptors.. Chances are tho you'll just want a cheapo one that'll do the job with little regard for silence or overclocking headroom, right?, but some chips run hotter than others, so probably best to know what you have before advising something specific, but just for kicks..

and hey, if nothing else, I bumped ya thread for ya!
