    Resolution woes

    Hello all,

Been directed here by a friend, hoping you can help.

I recently brought an Acer G7700 Predator Sniper 2 gaming machine, came with a Samsung T220 22" monitor. OS is Windows Vista Home Premium, 64bit.

When I connected the monitor, it advised me the optimum resolution is 1680 x 1050, however it would appear that either Windows, or the dual Nvidia 9600GT's are only seeing it at 1280 x 1024.

I've updated the 9600 drivers (last night) and the monitor driver (again, last night) and Windows is seeing the monitor as a Samsung T220 (was orginally listing it as a Generic PnP LCD Panel) but this hasnt changed much else.

I removed the tick to hide unsuported resolutions and that uncovered 1900 x 1200, which is ok, but the monitor doesnt really like it. The worrying thing is that checking the "list all modes" option on the display properties of the card, it appears to run the gammit of resolutions from 640x480 - 1280 x 1024, then jumps straight to 1900 x 1200.... little bit frustrating. I tried using the Nvidia Control panel to create a custom resolution, and was rewarded with a nice black screen. Bit odd as the spec sheet for the card suggests its capable of going much higher than this.

Just wondering if you good folks could offer any suggestions on anything else I could try. I looked for a factory reset on the monitor (though, from what I've seen thus far, the fault either lies in Windows or Nvidias court) but couldn't locate one in the menu.

Cheers for taking the time to read this.

    Regards,

    Robert.

    Re: Resolution woes

1920x1200 is widescreen - 1600x1200 is the 4:3 equivalent for a 1200 pixel vertical. Is the screen being hooked up by VGA or DVI, please?

    Re: Resolution woes

Dunno about that, all I'm going by is the fact that when I first powered on the monitor it reported in a handy pop-up that it best worked at 1680x1050.

** Edit ** Nichomach, the monitor is connected via DVI. The 9600's only have digital connectors.

Regardless of that, I think I may have possibly found a resolution to the issue. I visited Acers support site and found a batch of drivers on there for the machine/card (I was taking the drivers direct from Nvidia's site, which probably would have been fine had the card been purchased on its own)

Looking through the files in the zip, theres a list of supported modes, and my card/required resolution is listed..... so, here's hoping.

Picnic... Problem in chair, not in computer
