    vista and 5.1 sound

Just got an auzentech x-fi prelude sound card to go with my z5500's and i cannot get 5.1 sound when i select that option for my speaker configuration. when i do the test on the speakers i only get noise from the front left & right leaving centre, back l & r and the sub with nothing. i'm using the latest driver from the auzentech site btw. so gaming and watching films in 5.1 isn't happening for me at the moment. please enlighten me as i'm scratching my head and coming up with nothing

    Re: vista and 5.1 sound

Firstly download and install the latest drivers from Auzentech (Edit: Sorry - I see you did that). Are you using optical or coaxial? If so enable Dolby Digital live or DTS connect in the X-Fi control panel. Also run the speaker setup wizard.

If you'll be using the setup for games, you'll want to use Alchemy too. Multiple channel surround won't work in DirectSound3D games (about 80% of anything more than a couple of years old and a few newer games) without it.

Advice on how to do this and the Alchemy download can be found on the Auzentech site.

    Re: vista and 5.1 sound

thanks for the info but i've managed to get it working. i used a driver cleaner program, removed the auzen driver and then reinstalled the drivers, without all the other crap.
