i7 920 wont post on new build

    Hi, hope someone can help.

I have the following which wont bootup/post on a new build
    P6t Deluxe Mobo
    i7 920 CPU
    OCZ Mod xtreme PSU 700w
OCZ Triple Channel 3gb kit DDR3 gold series 1333 RAM 1.65v

Like many others I am having problems getting the above to post. I switch on my PC, all lights up, fans spin, but no beeps and no display on monitor.

Any ideas what the problem could be? I know it's not the graphics card because I have tried two, one new one and one from a working PC. I'm pretty sure it's not the motherboard, because this is my second. Sent the first one back as I thought that was my problem. Second motherboard does exactly the same thing and it's a different model. I've tried all three sticks of RAM and one at a time. I've cleared the CMOS by jumping and removing the battery. I know it's not shorting in the case, because it's not in the case, it's on the cardboard box it came in :-)

Any ideas? I'm at a loss. Cant believe I have a second dead Mobo, cant believe I have three dead RAM sticks. That leaves CPU or PSU.

    Many thanks

ok, first check memory configuration is correct! then check that the memory sticks are supported with this board as i do know there are a few mobos out there which are having a lot of issues with certain mem sticks!

Memory is OCZ 3G133LV3GK 3gb triple channel. I know the 6gb triple channel is supported, so would be surprised if the 3gb isnt.

Re: i7 920 wont post on new build

    Ok an update.

I have now replaced the PSU, I have replaced the memory with GSkill 1.5v triple channel memory, the CPU has come back from Ebuyer after being tested.

If I boot PC with just PSU, MOBO, and CPU I get 1 beep. Add the RAM beep disappears but still no image or BIOS. Monitor ok, keep checking with other PC. Graphics card ok, again checking with other PC.

So, unless second motherboard is broke, or second PSU is broke, or Ebuyer were lying to me when they said they could get the CPU to work I am stumped.

    Any help???

did you check the memory allocated in the correct slots? i have only tested a couple of i7 mobos and the mem config has changed from core 2 etc

Re: i7 920 wont post on new build

yes the memory is in the correct slots. 2nd from cpu, then 4th and 6th. This is my first build, but I understand older motherboards used 1,3 and 5. In desperation I tried 1,3 and 5 too :-) and each combination in between.

One thing you can try is on booting up can you get into the BIOS?

thanks for the offer. I've sent it all back for testing. Latest thinking is my second broken motherboard. When it comes back, hopefully with one new piece I'll give an update. Re Bios, no I couldnt get in.

Re: i7 920 wont post on new build

Well, Motherboard, and everything else come to that, has gone back. After some testing it appears that apparently the problem is BIOS needed to be flashed.

We'll have to wait and see if that fixes the problem.

Was the chip a D0 stepping as they should be out anytime and they require an update on the BIOS.

Re: i7 920 wont post on new build

    Hi

I have the same problem as this with my i7 920 Do processor with Asus P6T Deluxe V2.

I have emailed Asus about needing the Bios Flashed with Update 402 but they said it sould still POST.
But reading your reply above it would seam that you do need the BIOS update for it to work.

My MOBO is currently BIOS version 1.02G which needs updating
