LiteON Bluray drive doesn't play Blurays !? [help]

    Hi there..

Just got myself a LiteOn bluray drive OEM (DH401S) from scan. installed the hardware into the machine (Abit IP35 mobo, 8800GTS gpu, Q6600 G0 ) and downloaded a trial versions of WinDVD plus and PowerDVD Ultra 9.

Inserting a BluRay into the drive (Quantum of Solace) nothing happens, WinDVD advises that there is nothing in the drive, PowerDVD hangs then closes. I insert a DVD to make sure its working and it plays fine.

I do into my computer and look at the drive, nothing, I cant explore it either says there is nothing in drive. Also just says DVD Drvive (G.

I saw somewhere that I had to install UDF 2.5 (running XP Pro latest SP) to be able to run and explore blurays, which I did... I can now explore the drive OK but still can't play the movie in WinDVD or PowerDVD.

I have just installed the latest firmware for the drive, still nothing.

Am I missing something really silly here?? I thought it would be a simple case of plug and play !?

Any help would be smilled upon

    Thank you

I bought a Blu Ray drive me self not long ago. it came with power DVD software. It installed okay.
When I popped in the Blu Ray for the first time it wouldn't work with WMP. I right clicked on my drive an selected to open the movie with the Power DVD software. After downloading a 100MB patch which it automatically downloaded it worked well.

Hardware wise you need to be sure both your graphics card and monitor are HDCP enabled or ready.
Also you need to be sure the connection from your graphics card to monitor is propper didgital. Mine is hooked up via a dual link cable. you can get HDMI>DVI-D adaptors or vice versa. They work okay.
I'm not certain if DVI-I, which some graphics card use is okay. I'll have a search.

Other than that, me not know.

If you have dual monitors I heard that can mess up HDCP.

The trail version of powerdvd doesn't play blurays. You have to buy it.
I think that all the software trials don't support blu ray.

I think nearly all blu ray drives come with software but that one so if you want to play blu ray your going to have to buy software for it.

Ah, Is the PowerDVD the BD edition?
As handscombmp said. I guess that is why OEM is so cheap. You need software and Codecs?

Just be warned the Blu-Ray enabled editions of PowerDVD and WinDVD are really rather expensive. I forked out for the WinDVD version in the end. I also had the same drive which Scan swapped out for me when the Sony went out of stock, wish I had known over the phone it was OEM :/.
