Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio driver problems!!!

Decided to update my sound drivers as they were from 2003. Went to the Creative site and download the new drivers- Creative Sound Blaster Audigy series Driver 2.18.0010

But for some reason i'm getting no sound at all!! Device manager says its all working properly. Went into control panel and opened the sounds and audio devices properties. In the first tab (volume) the device volume bar is on low, and its grayed out- can't change any options. The rest of the tabs are fine!

Any ideas???

Hmm, I didn't have any problems when I did almost exactly the same update.

Does the sound blaster console open up okay (from start menu)?

Use the latest daniel_k drivers for the Aud 2 ZS. They are much better than the Creative ones and unlock loads of features

You mean the 'welcome menu' ??? If so it won't load! Black box appears for less than second. Its the 2nd time i have dl this driver update!!!

Should i remove the creative drivers before installing them or will it do that when installing??

Yes, be patient

People will reply as soon as they think they can be helpful. Bumping threads after only 90mins or so doesn't help anyone.

Cheers! Will give it a go tomorrow. When i used the filefront link kaspersky flagged up a trojan trying to dl!! Hope the file is ok will scan it when i dl tomorrow.

It won't be hosted on Filefront with a Trojan, they'd have pulled it well before now.

The only way i managed to get my old drivers installed and working again was to remove the sound drivers using safe mode. Now what if i removed the drivers and reinstalled them in safe mode- would that work?

The flag up came before i dl the file (which i haven't done yet) If i'm blessed with another 5 min today i may dl it.

Use Drive cleaner pro to remove the drivers and any detritus that may be left. Have you tried using the active X plugin on the creative website that detects your card and locates the correct driver for them? It's the tab on the bottom right thats says change configuration or auto update.

Thanks!! Will try that on the creative site later. Although i'm sure i have the correct drivers dl already.


One thing i have noticed that when the new driver has installed and then reboots, just before it shuts down a box appears with a red x circle saying something like 'the application.......' Not sure what the rest is as it just flashes up then goes.

Used that tool thin on the creative site and it got some newer driver working (2006) The other ones i was trying to use were for my card and much newer (2009) I'm very confused!!!

Only reason i'm updating them is because of some problems in Empire Total War. The music in the intro movie skips, stops and loops. It also does this when playing the American independence missions. Might try and update my gfx drives in a few days, but can't see how that would cause sound problems!!
