    Stream music/movies from pc - tv

    Any idea how to do it ? And whats needed. Never looked into it before (its not for me, i run a HTPC).

    Setup consists of a basic pc running via router (plugged in, but the router is wireless) from virgin cable modem, and then a tv in the living room.

    Has to be wireless too.

    PC running XP.

    You need a wireless media streamer, something like this from netgear. You can get various models from different vendors, you should make note of the various formats supported, as certain media like HD content for example may or may not be supported.
    Main PC : Abit IP35-Pro | Q6600 G0 @ 3GHz | 4x1GB Crucial Ballistix 8500 | MSI N460 GTX HAWX | 1 x Crucial M4 128GB SSD | Antec 182 | Corsair HX620 | Dell 2407WFP-HC | Windows 10 x64
    Server : HP MicroServer N40L | 16 GB RAM | 4 X 1 GB Samsung Spinpoint F1 | ESXi 6.0 NAS : Synology DS-408 - 4 x 3GB WD RED HTPC : Acer Revo RL70 | LibreElec

    that Netgear thing looks a little expensive for what it delivers. I can tell you now the PS3 will steam media wired or wirelessley from your Vista PC Videos folder straight through to the console and onto the TV, that includes HD content, although if your wireless router is too slow that one might fall flat. If you have XP you will need to set up a DLNA media server somehow. I have no idea what to tell you for XP but for Vista all you need to do is put the files in the video folder and activate media sharing in Windows Media Player. The PS3 should then recognise it on the network and huzzah! You can either copy the file or watch them OTA

    <EDIT>
    ....aaaand once again I don't read the post. You do have XP. Search about how to setup a DLNA server on your PC if you want to follow my advice and go down the PS3 line (it is of course a blu-ray player and games system too!), otherwise you could look at a video streamer.

    Yeah PS3 is a good idea, the netgear was an example.

    You can hack a linksys NSLU2 and add a streaming app (firefly) to it - it works well. Does need a bit of Linux knowledge though.

    Both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 will work for this, the 360 being the cheaper option. There's a discussion on media streaming with the PS3 here: http://forums.hexus.net/sony-gaming/...ia-server.html

    You could pick up an old Xbox and put XBMC on

    Get a Wireless Bridge/Access Point, and you'll be sorted.

    Probably the cheapest way of doing, but can't do HD.
