LG HD DVD Drive (GGC-H20L) Funnies

    Hello!

I've had a few playback problems on a couple of my HD DVD (and blu ray) discs that I've tried to play using my fully up to date PowerDVD 7.3 or whatever. [I'm away from my PC atm]

Basically normally at a point through the film, maybe at layer change, or even past it, the disc refuses to play. It will play up to that point and freeze then make the film exit so I get the red P.DVD screen. Now if i go to scene selection either for that precise one or for one following where the problem occurs the same will happen and the film will just crash.

NOW if I use my 360 HDDVD drive attached to the PC it works perfectly and plays without any stuttering or any freezing. So what is the problem, could it be a dodgy drive or laser?

Now I have heard some problems with the GGCH20L being a bit picky on some sata ports from time to time, depending on the controller. Personally I can't see how that would affect mine as it's fairly recent and new. It's an abit N73HD with an E4500 CPU.

I'm really quite annoyed having stumped out a fair bit of money for this drive only to encounter these problems. The problem does seem to manifest itself moreso in HDDVDs (mainly cuz I have a lot more of those), but it realy does ruin the whole movie watching experience for me and my mates

Any help would be much appreciated. (Originally bought from Scan)

[Oh the firmware it came with was V1.03, where I was having problems, so I since downgraded to V1.02 and it still remains the same] - So all things being equal why should the movie work fine on the external drive but not for the more expensive LG one I'm really gutted this has happened to me!

Might be worth cleaning the lens or RMAing it.

My very first HD-DVD drive (toshiba) was terrible for doing similar. I recently got the internal version of the drive you have and haven't had any problems since and I've played quite an array of HD-DVDs and BDs on it.

My GGC-H20L is rock solid, never had an issue with it. Don't know what firmware it's on but disk playback is fine - I'd RMA.

Re: LG HD DVD Drive (GGC-H20L) Funnies

i have similar problems with my ggc h20l.
i used an sata to ide converter and it worked fine but putting it back on sata port just causes problems of all sorts..
    slow or non responsive,
    wont read blu ray ,
but these problems dont happen on ide port.
    any ideas?
    regards
