black screen and fan running very fast help

my pc has twice now had a BSOD but the fan (not sure which one I have 8) run very very fast. I have kept an eye on my ATI CCC and my pc runs at 56c at idle and usally around 65-70c when I'm gaming.
Both times it has shut down i have been doing nothing.
The monitor stays on but no signal received and as i mentioned earlier my fan runs extremly fast (i suspect its the GPU fan) I have checked the fans just in case they are covered in dust but no there was a little but nothing bad.

Help is this a warning of iminent death as this machine is only 10-11 months old.

    Cheers Duffer

you need to find out what fans running 100%, if its the video card it could be the driver you installed for it.

Re: black screen and fan running very fast help

It could be the driver, so check that first.
If it isn't then it could be that the gfx card or even CPU fan is not seated correctly, which often causes weird hiccups like this. It would explain the shutdowns as the CPU or graphics card is getting too hot, and the fan is spinning like crazy to stop it but because it isn't attached correctly it can't do a thing. This could happen in standby mode too so that may explain your problem.

Re: black screen and fan running very fast help

Try reduce your overclock and see if that helps. Overclock potential of a chip could go down as it aged. On my asus motherboards if an overclock failure occurs the fans rev at 100%, or a soft reset occurs. But your case seems to suggest somewhere in between. Unstable overclock is sensitive to spike loads not just continuous load.

Re: black screen and fan running very fast help

the driver installed for the GPU is the latest ati ccc 9.5 and when the pc has closed down it was saying my temp was 58c, will rollback to last driver and see if that helps.
