psu trouble help please

i just bought a Corsair TX 650W ATX SLi Compliant Power Supply , to run my server pc
i have 3 of the 5 bay icydock enclosures in the case (each dock takes 3 connecters from psu) , connected up 2 of them work fine got to the 3rd one when i plug it in i get a really high pitch noise

Any PSU rating is on the assumption that the load is distributed across all the rails - you cant take (in this case) 650 watts from just the 12V and %V rails (which is what you drives will be taking. My guess (from the information you have posted) is that you may be overloading the PSU, although not enough to cause it to shut down.

You need to look at the current rating of the 5 and 12 volt rails, and add up the total current consumption of the drives.

PSU making a high-pitched noise is usually the sign that it's on its way out.

How long have you had the PSU? If it's still under warranty, contact Corsair & get it replaced.

update i tried it on the sata rail still makes the same high pitch noise , i pulled the icybox out and theres no writing on it that says how much power it uses

The icydocks consume (pretty much) 0 power - it's the drives you need to be looking at.

They wouldnt make the PSU scream.

Usually a high pitched screaming sound from a PSU is a popped can cap.
It could also be a dodgy PSU fan though but unlikely.

DON´T take it apart as you both void your warranty and also get a BIG shock.

i had a OCZ StealthXStream 600w Silent SLI Ready ATX2 Power Supply and it worked fine no noise no problems , had to change it cause the fan was knackered
