Monitor pixel fault?
After messing with my monitor's settings and getting very close to fine tune I noticed that black text on a white background leaves shadows to the right of the character (it happens with other colours/shades but black/white is the most noticeable). I checked on a few other LCD screens and didn't see the same effect. Is my monitor faulty/set up incorrectly or is it normal with some displays?
I have a 19" 1680x1050 Iiyama LCD display with VGA input (no DVI).

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
It looks like ghosting, commonly caused by substandard/damaged VGA cables.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
That would be another cause yes, due to the extra contacts. One can limit the ghosting by running at a lower resolution, but that's not something you would want for a TFT. Generally tho, if both cables in the KVM setup are of high enough quality the ghosting should be minimal. Your picture suggests it is quite extreme, so the cables do seem the largest culprit.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
When I try 1024x768 the effect doesn't seem as bad. Also the KVM is one of these so maybe I should have spent more. Any recommendations?
BTW the ghosting is only that bad when I look at the screen from below, as shown by the photo.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
Hi watercooled, how does it fare without the KVM?
Are all the connections secure?
What refresh rate are you using? Try tweaking this as well to see if it makes any difference.
Also may be helpful to know your graphics card model.
I also use a VGA KVM (a relatively cheap Trendnet TK-205i), & have no issues as you describe with any resolution right up to 2048x1536 (btw my monitor's native res is 1920x1200). That's a quality brand KVM you're using, which can also do up to 2048x1536 res.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
Refresh rate is 60Hz and my graphics card is a HIS 4850 IceQ TurboX but I don't think the graphics card is the problem as it also happens with my other computer, which has SIS integrated graphics and has a max resolution of 1024x768 although it's not as bad but that's probably due to the lower res. I'll have a go in a min without the KVM...
Edit: Just tried without KVM and it seems slightly better. Before I could see 2 shadows, one of them very faint but without the KVM I can see only one faintish (if that's a word) shadow. I'm using the VGA cable supplied with the monitor and a DVI-VGA adapter on the card.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
Is this only on text or vector graphics?
It could be a clear type configuration problem, use the clear type tuner.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
Cheap VGA cable perhaps? as sadbuttrue has said.
Recently got one of these for my cousin as its a true 15pin and not a 14pin like the stupid belkin cables.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
I had pretty much the same with a Belkin VGA cable. the KVM will not be helping though either way :(

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
I think I'll specifically go for a DVI monitor next time - I don't think they have any of these problems and don't need as much adjusting.

Re: Monitor pixel fault?
Try with another cable.
Unless there was something wrong with it, a VGA-only monitor will not display the blurring you're experiencing.
