Cant get Bluray to play with new drive - HDCP/AACS problem?
Hello,
I have just bought a new Liteon DH-4O1S-06C bluray drive from Scan. I have a copy of PowerDVD 9 Ultra, and trial versions of WinDVD 9 and TotalMedia Theater 3. I have a ASUS HD4850 graphics card, Samsung Syncmaster 223BW and a 32 inch panasonic TV, all of which are supposed to be HDCP compliant.
When I try and play the discs the following happens in each program:
PowerDVD says it needs to update the software, then says it has updated but still wont play.
WinDVD initially downloaded something to do with the AACS key, but then when it tried to play the disc it says it had stopped it from playing because there was an error in the AACS.
TotalMedia Theater 3 doesn't do anything when you click play.
These problems happen in both XP 32-bit and Vista 64-bit OS's.
I have downloaded the trial version of AnyDVD-HD which removes the AACS protection and the disc will then play, without sound, in my trial version of TotalMedia Theater. I think I can rip the files to pc as well, which then play in PowerDVD - but I havent done this for a whole disc yet. I am also not keen to do this really as I think AnyDVD is illegal.
Any suggestions as to how I can stop this problem from happening?

I only have a few simply things.
Are you using more than one monitor? That can bugger it up.
And obviously you are using a digital lead instead of VGA.
I'm sorry. I don't think that helps much. :embarrassed:
Re: Cant get Bluray to play with new drive - HDCP/AACS problem?
I have a dual monitor set-up (actually its a monitor and a TV), but even if I disconnect the monitor and run it through the TV that doesn't work. I am using a HDMI cable with a DVI-HDMI adaptor attached to the graphics card. I have also tried using an RGB cable because I had heard that that might work at a lower resolution, but no luck.
Can't understand it....

What disk are you trying to play? And what version of AnyDVD HD?
AnyDVD HD has very regular updates, and it may just be that your current trial version is too old to decrypt the disk properly. You now need to be a registered user in order to make use of the regular beta versions they release. I find the software invaluable on my HTPC.
There's a beta update out for TMT3 also, which you can get from the Arcosft forum though I'm not 100% sure if it will work with trial versions or not.

Re: Cant get Bluray to play with new drive - HDCP/AACS problem?
The movies are 'Ghost Town' and 'Blood Diamond'.
Both are rentals from LoveFilm.
I am not having a problem with AnyDVD - that is working okay. It's just that I would rather not use it as
a) I shouldn't have to.
b) I understand its not kosher.
c) I would have to pay to get it.
I have done a bluray compatability test on my system with the software supplied by Windvd, PowerDVD and TMT3, and they all say I should be able to play bluray on my system with no issues.
