    Re: hard drive recorder

Any recorder that can record from the video input can do this.

HOWEVER, only Sky+ will let you use the EPG to record TV. Anything else would work just like a video recorder. SO you would need to set the regular Sky box to the right channel and leave it alone. Then tell the recorder to record from the input at certain times.

    Re: hard drive recorder

But you can use non-Sky EPG's (like GuidePlus) to record programs on Sky.

Unless I'm misreading what ange wants to do, this is exactly what I do (or rather, almost).

I have a Pioneer hard drive recorder. It downloads GuidePlus data from conventional TV transmissions, and you can then select and program from that. It then controls the satellite box (or in my case, NTL cable box) changing channels as appropriate, using an infra-red dongle thingy, and records direct from the cable box via a Scart lead. Anda friend does exactly the same thing, also using a Pioneer HDR, but from a Sky sat receiver.

    Hope that helps, ange.

    hmm...

i guess a DVB-S card wouldn't work, officially or unofficially. perhaps there is some unofficial decoding software.... but i am only guessing

all of the above you can receive, legitimately, with a DVB-S card and sky minidish (no subscription required to anything). if the channels you want are included in the above list, there are many options for non-sky boxes.
