Re: TriCool fan - Molex to 3 Pin?
I don't see why the tri-cools wouldn't work well under a fan controller - set them to H and they get full voltage. Also, the switch is inside the case so if you want to change the speed for gaming etc its a pain to open the case to mes with the switches.
Re: TriCool fan - Molex to 3 Pin?
depends on what your after in a fan, I can personally recommend the sharkoon system fans midrange esp if you plan to use a fan controller

See the results of my basic testing

They are less noisy at full speed than the tri-cool at high and still push out more air in a tighter cone, although the tri-cool's sound is a lower pitch.
when at 5v (the lowest speed of most fan controllers) they have about the same in air flow and sound level as the tri-cool on lowest.
I'm fairly sure you'd get the same results from the Yate Loon 1650rpm 120mm fans

or any other decent 1600ish rpm fan
Re: TriCool fan - Molex to 3 Pin?
Thanks, I've just ordered some stuff from scan and ignored the fan controller/case fans for now, I've ordered this:
Thermalright HR-03-GT 6 H-pipe Heat sink for nVidia 8800GT, ATI 3850/70 VGA Cards (fan not Inc) 92mm
Noctua NF-B9-1600 Vortex-Control 92mm Quiet Case Fan
1TB Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black, SATA 3Gb/s, 7200rpm, 32MB Cache
And some other random crap:
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound for CPU and Chipset Coolers - 3.5 gram
Belkin F8E412 Blaster Canned/Compressed Air 350ml- Perfect for Blowing Dust from Keyboards/Fans
Akasa TIM-Clean CPU and Heat Sink (Pad/Grease) Cleaning Solution
Will see my temps after a good clean and reseat :)

well that's what I mean. how does that speed setting work? if it's just switching between resistors to reduce the fan voltage then you'd have to have them on high for it to work other wise the voltages may get too low.
but at the same time they may run some other methord of reducing the speed and lowering the input voltage below 12v may cause it to simply stop or be unable to start.

Hopefully it will make a difference.
I can live with the Tri-Cools if I can just leave them running at 'low' all the time, but would like some sort of monitoring system set up.
