Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
I Cant decide if i should buy GA-MA790X-UD3P or GA-MA790X-UD4P. The silent piping from the voltage regulator to the NB and integrated dolby surround sound are the only 2 major differences between these two boards.
I read that silent pipes help disperse heat more effectively between chipsets but with ultra durable 3 and with a decent cooling case will i really need to spend an extra £13 pound for it? i dont mind not having dolby at all. Yes i do plan on OCing and using crossfire.
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
If you are planning on using crossfire would you not be better off going for a 790FX chipset? as both the above boards will run at 8x 8x not 16x 16x, i know its not alot but will effect performance especially if you are going to be running 2 high end cards.
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
Agreed, use the 790FX for crossfire. The silentpipe heatsinks from Gigabyte are a bit of a con because you get smaller heatsinks for the sake of there being heatpipes, which merely means that the chipset gets heated up by the voltage regulators instead.
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
Thx guys i needed that reasurance i thought those pipes was abit of a con or just eye candy. So you say FX? Well iv only got £140 max to spend on a mobo. i'll go search around then^^
Athough from what iv heard the duel x8 pci slots over duel x16 is about a 10-15% difference in performance increase. Cards that are avil now dont use the max potential of duel x16's yet from what iv read and im not to sure exactually how much greater the performance will show from high end cards on duel x16's. I could be wrong but lets wait and see^^
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
£140 is ample for any motherboard.

which would you go for sammoris? Asus M3A79-T Deluxe looks so sweet what other choises would you recommend sammorris?

If your going AM2+ i would be extremely tempted to pickup novatechs weekend deal.

A Asus M3A79-T Deluxe for £90, these retail on scan for £135.
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
Certainly cheap. I tend not to recommend many Asus boards lately since I discovered their £150+ offerings are no longer lasting than their cheap ones.
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
omg thats awsome ! thx alot jasp ! thats a sweet deal..its not gigabyte but hey its got everything i need also it will look sweet with my arctic Cooling Freezer Xtreme !:rockon2:
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
Well it scales at 16x 16x then 16x 8x 8x if you plan on running 3 cards later down the line, so should be more then capable for your needs. Also quite a huge gigabyte lover having built 2 recent PCs but at that price i'd personally say its worth a punt. Novatech are also a very reputable retailer, having bought products from them myself.
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
yeah thats just crazy with 16x 16x then 16x 8x 8x...iv never gone crossfire before or OC'ed lmfao but i'll be sure to read every tut i find on it. I'm starting off with 7850 BE to OC to 3.4 / 3.2 mhz and wait for prices to drop abit on the phenom ii x4 cpus. From wot iv read i only need to up the multipler and voltage? http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Ha...on7850/12.html
i know i need hd 4850 / 4870 ect for 2 cards but how can i use 3 cards :undecided :) can i just stick in any random card in the x16 slot and say for example hd 4850 / 4870 cards in the x8 x8 slots?
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
Never touched any overclocking in my life lol, im one for the long life crew. From what i understand since its a black edition you can simply alter the mulitplyer to a higher amount, if the board is smart enough it will adjust the voltage required itself or you will have to set it manually.
Fastest card in the first slot, slower cards down the line from what i understand. Normally all have to be the same series so you can't mix a 4870 with a 3k series.
Technically the board can hold 4 cards at 8x 8x 8x 8x, though i don't think its really worth while going more then 2/3 as they don't scale well + you have cooling issues to consider.
If your planning on running 2 4870s, you may be better off going for a 4870X2 as its a complete solution then, sammorris has them in his rig so know abit more then me about them.

re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
Good luck with overclocking a 7850BE, they don't overclock for <expletives> as they're original Phenom technology. 3.1-3.2 is as much as you will probably get out of it, not even hardware enthusiasts are getting much more than that.
You will have to have graphics cards the same series to run them together in crossfire - if you use cards that aren't the same, your performance will be limited to two (or three if you use three cards) times that of the slowest card, so there's no point getting anything other than three identical cards. Ultimately crossfire of lesser cards is a bit of waste when the 4870X2 is so cheap. The only thing you can beat a 4870X2 with in two slots is to have two 4890s, but bear in mind three of ANY externally-boosted card (so anything out of the very cheap midrange - most of these don't support 3-way CF anyway) or two 4870s/4890s will require a beefy PSU with 3 or 4 PCIe power connectors, and these are quite expensive. a 4870x2 will run off a 2 connector unit like a Corsair HX 520W.
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
nice advice on the crossfire front sammorris:) as for the 7850 BE , iv decided to buy the best processor for the money i can aford atm which was £66. I'v brought the phenom ii x3 700e version...iv looked everywhere on the web cant find any benchmarks at all:p but i hear it performs better than phenom x2 550 BE ? i really hope iv not made a mistake here lmfao
re: Is Silent piping REALLY all that? mobo confusion.
IMO the X2 550BE would have been a better choice, as it's much faster per core. Depends what you use it for though.
