    Vista won't boot up :(

    Hey guys,
i was using my computer this morning and I was installing the updates and then mid way my computer crashed (i was running a virus scan at the same time) and when i restarted it (i just turned off the power with the switch as i was about to go out) and when i came back i tried to turn it on and it won't boot. basically it goes to screen where it says that it is installing the updates and it is at 3 of 3 at 0% and before anything really happenes, it will automatically restart, it does this several times.

i have tried it in safe mode and it doesnt boot either. i have a lot of things that i want to keep, i dont know how to get it working again! i called up some technical support and they said i have a virus and wanted me to sign up to this membership for £70.99 and i get unlimited technical support! i cant afford this. what can i do? can i tell the updates not to start?

    pleeease help me

Sounds as if the AV borked the install of the updates.
I'd boot from CD and then try and then go back to the last restore point.

Re: Vista won't boot up :(

The update will have acted in many ways similarly to malware by altering key elements of the OS. As your Anti-Virus was active at the same time I am assuming that the two apps interacted badly and effectively left your OS in a state between updates, and no longer functions.

If you cannot restore, then I think you may have to re-install windows. Boot from CD and then re-install from scratch. I don't believe that this will affect your other data, but it may be worthwhile to take a backup by taking out the HDD, attaching it to another machine and copying the data across.
