Does anyone know what the main culprit for this is, I have a suspicion - but want to check before I go spend £200 on a new one

definitely gone, mine are green and it was cuz i screwed the akasa aftermarket cooler too tight

£200 is quite a lot of money, i think you can get a pretty decent card with that money. the ati 4870 which is quite decent are only around £100++ now but i havent been keeping up to date with gpu so maybe someone else will be able to assist you better

You could do a lot worse than picking up a ATI 4890. Currently about £125 if you can find an offer (Scan have done a couple at that price lately).
