Lost My Windows Username & Password.

I have installed some software (LogMeIn) on my Mac at home so that I can access it from my Dell PC at work.

However, when I tried to access my home computer from work today I was asked to enter my Windows Username and Password.

I have not used my Windows Username and/or Password since I had the Dell in 2005 and I have absolutely no idea where I can find them.

Any solutions?

If its xp, you can wipe and reset the password using a bootable DVD with the program: Winternals installed onto it.

It is XP (Home Edition) but I don't have a bootable CD. The PC came from Dell with Windows XP pre-installed!

I have used a bootable cd in the past to find out passwords on a system that I forgot the password for.

Try a google search for ophcrack.

Download the image and burn that to a cd.

Boot from the cd, let it do its thing and voila most passwords will be visible without the need to reset anything.

As usual use at your own risk but has been good to me.

ophcrack does work - but it's a brute force dictionary attack so it won't *always* work. ERD commander 2005 does the job more cleverly but costs money (and is a bugger to find now isn't it?). There's also a backdoor in the XP installer that allows you to launch a command prompt and reset passwords during an install (over an existing installation - doesn't reset anything btw).

ophcrack (live CD) is a good first stop - it won't do damage and doesn't cost anything. You need to download the live CD ISO image and burn it to a blank CD (use imageburn for that [also free]) and then boot from this CD.

And ERD commander is now part of the DART kit which is available to Software Assurance customers, and for testing via Technet (and I guess MSDN, but I don't have MSDN so can't confirm this)

Hang on - back to square one. You're uising logmein, and you access that service online and when you connect to the client (ie. Your mac) it asks for credentials for the client, not the computer you are accessing your account from... Just confused by that... Is the username/pwd prompt from within logmein, or a windows based one? I use logmein, and its not somethign that I have come across, so interested about what that could be...

no one thought about creating a new account ?

if there is no password on the windows account it may still ask for one and never let you in.

go to control panel and select user accounts, make a new account there for the remote login.

it should be as simple as that

Or use another admin account to change the password.

If you can access the same machine using another user account, then just use CMD to change the other accounts password.

I know this sounds stupid but it worked for me. Press ctrl alt del and you'll get a more conventional login screen. Type administrator in to the username and see if the password is left empty (it quite frequently is). Otherwise try the common passwords, ADMINISTRATOR for example

I think we all need to read the OP's post again.

1) His work credentials to log into his work PC. I think we can assume he knows those.
2) His e-mail and password to log on to his LogMeIn account. The website will have forgotton password procedures so these aren't the problem.
3) The machine password that he setup when installing LogMeIn. If he has fogotton that then he will need to un-install LogMeIn from the Mac then re-install it.
4) On a windows box, he would now be looking at a windows logon screen. On a Mac, I don't have a clue, but is it possible that here is where the mystery logon prompt is being issued?

Maybe Follywines can clarify what the problem credentials are?
