Hard Drives

I wanted to add a new 1tb hard drive to my desktop so I have decided between the following two:

I know one says SATA, and the other SATA II, will both work with a normal mobo?
Also I know there is a buffer difference, but I heard that that hardly matter, so which one is better

Both are SATAII, go for a scan Samsung F1, reliable and cheap. If you wanna spend a little more, wait for the Samsung F3s with 500GB platters, will be insanely fast.

Isn't Hitachi equally reliable as Samsung? Or are they notorious for something (besides producing the deathstars)?

nothing wrong with hitachis. i'm using 5 in my system at the moment - 1 of which is from 2003
I could never get the hang of partitioning, so just got another drive instead.

as for the speed of the hitachis. this was when i had an incorrect setting in the bios. they're a bit faster now.





the deathstars were aaaages ago. i really wish people would just forget they ever happened.

So which one do you think is better...the Hitachi or the Samsung?

Largely preference. I prefer Samsung. I've still not forgiven Hitachi from their deathstar fiasco which cost me a lot of time and data, but there isn't any reliability issues with them these days - so don't consider that here

I would stay with WD or Samsung TBH. I have had numerous Hitachi and IBM notebook drives go kaput including a very expensive 7K60 and of course there was the issues with their desktop drives.

OTH, my desktop WD and Samsung drives have lasted years and funnily enough a few slightly older Seagates too.The main issue with Seagate and Maxtor drives were buggy firmware in some of their drives. When it comes to notebook drives Fujitsu hard drives are great too.
