Changing raid1 array to separate disks

I have 2 x 250Mb hard disks on a raid1 array on an Asus A8N-SLi board.

It's running Windows XP Pro on a separate hard disk (not on raid) along with all my other apps.

The 2 raid disks contain data only.

Is it possible to re-cable these 2 raid disks as conventional separate disks without losing any data?

This is a box I put together so I know how to do the re-cabling, I just wasn't sure about the data.

RAID 1 is morroring.....just detach one drive, attach it to another port and boot into windows.....copy the data from the broken array to the stand alone disk, then make the lone RAID disk into a non-RAID disk.

You can always use a imaging tool like Acronis True Image and backup the raid drive image, delete the raid array and copy the image onto a single drive - a little pointless in RAID 1 arrays but fine for RAID 0, 5 etc.

I actually had an old cheap Silicon Image based RAID card with a couple of drives in RAID1 years ago.
It used some fancy system to write the data slightly different to standard as it passed through the controller, meaning you couldn't just boot off it normally if the card was taken away.

The only way to do it was the way you're suggesting. What a pain that was at the time!
