I wouldn't use any solvent other than proprietary cleaners made for the job or isopropyl alcohol. Nail polish remover contains oils and chemicals designed to condition the nails and that will leave a residue. Acetone is also quite an aggressive solvent that attacks some plastics.

Adhesive cleaners contain even more aggressive solvents, some are petroleum product based and attack an even greater range of plastics - and some will remove the conformal coating on PCBs - so if you spill it you risk causing damage to the mobo.

Exactly, we all go to great length and cost to buy the best components for our PCs. Why skimp on something as simple as TIM remover which could potentially cause a lot of damage?

+1 on Isopropyl Alcohol. You can get it from your local chemist. Dead cheap too! Scrub most of it with some paper towels, then use cotton buds to get the rest of with it slightly soaked in Isopropyl Alcohol.

    It works a treat.

I bought some Arcticlean a while ago and it works great. Will probably but Isopropyl alcohol in future though. Coffee filters or kitchen roll are good to have too.
