Re: Vista won't boot, cd won't work
I think I've got an old drive banging around somewhere if it comes to it. It's sata and I'm certain everything's connected properly, it's got power and the sata cable is connected properly.
I'm burning an ubuntu disk right now and I'll see if that will boot.
Re: Vista won't boot, cd won't work
Hmm, burned an ubuntu disk and tried it on another computer to make sure it worked, which it did. Then tried it on my computer and it still doesn't work. It comes up saying "Boot from cd drive: _ " which it usually doesn't... then it just comes up with the error.
So confused with this haha.
Re: Vista won't boot, cd won't work
What about making a bootable USB drive?
That should help us to see if the problem is your motherboard (etc.) or your optical drive.
Re: Vista won't boot, cd won't work
I can't see how it would be my optical drive. I'd imagine that if there was a problem with the drive then I wouldn't be able to repair it at all.
It's still happening everytime I boot up, no matter how many different things I try. I'm still getting a random load of problems, right now I can't boot from the cd drive anymore, as it goes straight to the hard drive.
It's obvious this problem isn't going to go away, and is just getting harder and harder to work around. What am I looking at for a proper solution, new motherboard?
Re: Vista won't boot, cd won't work
try and get an xp instalation disk and format ur hard drive using the xp instalation it helped me many times with various vista instalation errors.
btw i can always point to where u can get this xp aka pm me ;)

The best way to debug this kind of problem is to change one variable at a time and look for a difference, and keep doing that until your problem is sorted.
I'm not totally sure (because we haven't tried everything we can), but I agree that the problem is probably your motherboard.

It could be the manual problem means it may be possible that you are not following correct path for installing the window. There are many remote <spam URL removed and reported> that can help you out from this problem. They can diagnose and repair virtually any problem you are experiencing. Best of all you can see everything they are doing and even talk with them on the phone at the same time.
If his PC wont POST how do you suggest they access his PC remotely?
Re: Vista won't boot, cd won't work
Hate to bump a topic that's over a month old, but I'd just like to highlight that I still have this problem. Everytime I boot up I have to go through the painstakingly slow process of "repairing" whatever is wrong from the recovery disk.
I'm honestly getting so sick of this new 15 minute boot time. Anyone have any more suggestions as to how I could solve this?
