Most quiet heatsink and fan, suitable for a Core2Duo E6400?

    Hey guys.
I've had my computer for a while now, but am tired of the hum from the fans. As a result, I have decided to replace the heatsink and fan which came with me Core2Duo processor, but don't know which one is best and the most quiet.
    Any ideas?

check out frosty tech. they have thermal and acoustic measurements on loads of coolers.

+1 for forstytech. How big is your case - that will determine what coolers you can use.

Arctic Freezer is crap. 920rpm idle and you can hear it. phbbtt

The best I have used is Thermaltake Blue Orb II. 17dba, 700rpm idle and plus it has LED

Re: Most quiet heatsink and fan, suitable for a Core2Duo E6400?

I had a Freezer 7 Pro. It cooled ok but it was a lot noisier than people suggested. If the fan controller was on automatic speed it would either be fairly quiet but hot or very loud and cool.

I use a Scythe Ninja rev. B now. You can use any 12cm fan, so if you don't like the one included you can get another one. It cools well and the included fan is very quiet, even at full speed. If the CPU is not overclocked and you have good airflow in your case you could probably use it passively. I tried that but it gets a bit warm under load without a fan.

Akasa AK-965 is great at low speed (better than Intel stock) and is silent.

Re: Most quiet heatsink and fan, suitable for a Core2Duo E6400?

If you want quiet then passive is best, and as stated the ninja can be run without a fan (as can the mini ninja).
I think there are better coolers now for use with a fan, but I've not heard of many that can do better passive.

Thank you so much for your help guys.
I can't believe the difference in size of heatsinks compared to a computer in our house which is 9 years old. So much bigger!
I'm thinking the Ninja might be the way to go, especially as it can run without the fan!
