Lock Up On Detecting IDE Drives

    I have a Gigabyte E7-AUM-DS2H
    1TB Samsung Sata drive
    and an Aopen DVD/RW

I have the 1TB HDD plugged in viata Sata to Sata0 port
    The DVD Drive via IDE

On the post screen the HDD is detected and when it gets to detecting the DVD drive everything freezes and it doesn't detect it.

It works fine without the DVD drive in, I've changed cables and tried the drive in 2 other systems, it's working fine.

Should I have jumpers on the HDD and DVD drive, if so where should they be?
Maybe I've missed something in the bios?

Re: Lock Up On Detecting IDE Drives

Oh and another thing, what should my Sata be set to in the bios, IDE or AHCI?
    I'm in a pickle :3

Edit: Removed the DVD drive, stuck it in a USB caddy and it detects, still no idea as to what the issue was in the first place.

Re: Lock Up On Detecting IDE Drives

Well, with only the one IDE device, it should be set to master.
SATA should be set to AHCI - but only if you haven't set up an OS yet. Certainly Windows does not like you switching it around afterwards.

Re: Lock Up On Detecting IDE Drives

I was searching google for this very similar problem with mine and I decided to register to post this. My board however is a Gigabyte GA-M61PME-S2P. I have this really annoying problem and it's driving me crazy. Whenever I turn on the PC it would RANDOMLY freeze when 'detecting ide drives'. The whole thing just freezes and you won't even be able to cnt+alt+del. So I would have to turn it off and back on a few times... then it would detect it and return to normal. If I unplug the IDE then it would just boot with the SATA fine. But I know for sure it's not a problem with my drives. And now with what you said, it seems to be some crappy problem with Gigabyte boards and their IDE channel. I still cannot figure out how to fix this because its SO RANDOM. Boy those are the worse ones, the ones where you don't even know how to reproduce the problem/error to be able to even diagnose it.
