Which cpu temp is actual on new build?
Well, I managed to setup my new rig, but it's been troublesome to say the least. Now I'm getting totally different CPU temp readings from various programmes as shown in the pics below.
The BIOS reading is MSI app.
Rig is:
cpu e6300
mobo MSI P45 Zilent (Platinum) - NEW
hsf Coolermaster Hyper 212 - NEW
(using OCZ Freeze)
ram Corsair TWIN2X4096-6400C4DHX
psu Corsair HX450w - NEW
gpu HIS 2900gt
sound X-fi Gamer
case Gigabyte Poseiden - NEW
What do you guys reckon on the best cpu temp reading? Will reseating the cpu or updating BIOS correct this?
Thanks.
Well temps vary depending on the programme I use. :confused2:
Idle (Just booted up)

Idle after 1 hr

Load under Linx

Re: Which cpu temp is actual on new build?
I tend to go with core temp, most people seem to trust it. You might need to check the tjmax is set correctly though.
Re: Which cpu temp is actual on new build?
Usually for dual core people recommend CoreTemp and quad core RealTemp is recommended. I personally use RealTemp.
Re: Which cpu temp is actual on new build?
I find core temp to be reliable.

Bit confused because the images all look to be the same (although they are hard to read. If you mean that the temperatures are different depending on how you are using the computer, then that is expected as you are loading up the CPU to different amounts.
If you are asking which software gives teh most reliable reading - again a tricky one because it depends on the sensor set up on the mobo, and in any case the sensors are unlikely to be calibrated - so the temperature readings are useful for relative comparisons, but unreliable for absolute readings.
If you are running Linux, then I find LM-sensors to be 'good' in that it gives readings that I think are credible, (the system I am using is claimed to be running at 45C - but I suspect that is at least +/- 5 degrees - however if it were to suddenly shoot up, the relative rise would be significant, rather than the absolute indicated temperature. The only way to get an accurate temperature is to use some form of calibrated external sensor - but that has its own sources of inaccuracy - depending on how and where you position the sensor.
Bottom line is that if it gets too hot, the CPU will throttle itself and/or shutdown, but the absolute temperature that occurs is around 70-80 C (although that is CPU dependent)

You have to click on them to open them then again to enlarge them then all becomes clear ;).

Thanks for the replies guys.
Also thanks to mac124 for pointing out that you do need to click and enlarge the pics to see the actual details.
I've getting different temp readings from various sources on my new build, and it is unstable on running Linx/IBT.
I've tested the cpu on my other rig (as sig) and temps were all same or similar between 2 values rather than 4 different ones. In addition, Linx/IBT ran fine.
I reckon it might be the airflow in the case (Gigabyte Poseiden) as the front intake is pretty weedy and iI can barely feel any air on the other side of the HDD cage.
