Need To Install Onboard GPU Drivers If Installing PCI-E GPU?

    Folks,

I'm contemplating whether to install the on-board graphics drivers for a G31 board if all I might do is install the HD2600XT later on?

Will performance of the motherboard be affected if don't install the on-board graphics drivers and instead use the PCI-E HD2600XT?
Or say if I was to use the on-board graphics temporarily, will I need to uninstall them if I later added the HD2600XT to the system?

Thanks folks, am lost a bit as this is the first time I am using a motherboard with onboard graphics.

if you upgrade to add on VGA its best to uninstall the onboard before you disable in the bios incase there are applications that start with the PC.

otherwise you have nothing to worry about upgrading to an addon card at a later stage.

It was specifically cos of the applications I asked, thanks, I thought as much. Will therefore probably not install the on-board GPU drivers and have the drivers for the HD2600XT installed straight from the word go as I will probably use the HD2600XT instead for graphics.

Smile Re: Need To Install Onboard GPU Drivers If Installing PCI-E GPU?

Always a good idea to uninstall one set of graphics drivers before using another graphics card, unless you are planning on using both at the same time, then obviously you cannot do that. Would disable onboard graphics in BIOS also when not in use.

I do have a rig with both PCI-E and onboard graphics though, and using both simultaneously works fine for general use. If I no longer required the onboard graphics, I would simply uninstall drivers/software and disable the hardware in the BIOS.
