    Failed hard drive?

i recently purchased a 2nd hard drive from scan http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/750GB...b-s-32MB-Cache

i installed the hard drive into my pc, and attempted to format. When i do long format the progress bar will not move even after 1 hour that i left it. I tried doing a quick format which was done instantly so i thought "Well that should do the trick" I install my tv card software onto it so that i would have plenty of space for recorded programs which seemed to work perfectly.

The problem started when i wanted to install a game. I tried to install LOTR battle for middle earth but once it reached 12% it seemed to stall my pc then the installer crashed. Also when i wanted to transfer files from my steam apps folder it also crashed my computer requiring me to force a restart.

What do you all think... broken drive?

Thanks for the quick reply =]

Have already tried using different cables with no change. Currently running that lifeguard diagnostics. Will report back if starts working =]

    Re: Failed hard drive?

Ok the lifeguard software crashed my computer so that wasn't much help I disconnected my C: drive and tried using the xp cd to format the drive. The format didn't move after 1 hour so i think the drive must be buggered. I have sent an email to WD anyway in hopes that they might have some answers otherwise I guess only option is to send it back

    Re: Failed hard drive?

How recent? Scan are pretty good and you'll find it quicker to send back as a "faultyunit from day one" rather than going through returns with WD (as good as they are).

Tesco Direct and eBuyer have both done it for me. Both win bonus bonus points for it, too - with Tesco, I bought a TV and rejected it after discovering that it couldn't do 1080p if it was connected via VGA or DVI, and they picked it up within a couple of days, and let me keep my £15 of TopCashBack cashback. With eBuyer, their driver just couldn't be bothered waiting to pick up the exercise machinery that had previously arrived in a damaged box, and apparently couldn't be bothered dragging the old one back to the van, either. So, by fortunate coincidence of having an obscenely heavy box, an impatient courier, and me sitting on the throne taking a rather large dump when the guy came, I got to keep both old and new, and since he never came back for the old, I just set it up for use and sold the new one. £30. Score.
