    Connecting laptop to logitech Z-5500

    Hi,

Does anyone know how to connect a laptop to logitech z-5500. I am looking for a cheap solution to this as i dont want to spend any money getting a sound card for my laptop ASUS G1sn-ak014c.

    Audio Interface on laptop

    1 x audio - line-In
    1 x microphone - input - mini-phone 3.5mm
    1 x audio - SPDIF output/headphones

Audio Interface on logitech z-5500 5.1 speakers

    Connections

SPDIF input ( RCA phono )
SPDIF input ( TOS Link )
    Digital 5.1 channel audio line-in ( mini-phone stereo 3.5mm x 3 )
    Audio line-in ( mini-phone stereo 3.5 mm )

Can i utilize any of the above input/outputs to recieve 5.1 audio on my speakers.Thx in advance.

Going out on a limb here but assuming that your SPDIF out from the laptop is optical couldn't you connect that to the input on your Z-5500. You also need your sound hardware to support either DTS or Dolby Pro Logic II encoding.

Re: Connecting laptop to logitech Z-5500

I bought a 3.5mm to optical spdif adapter but z-5500 is not recognising the signal.

But a single 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable(from headphone socket) is working with z-5500 6ch redirect (not 5.1) however i have seen people configure input sockets for microphone and audio input to recieve 5.1 on a desktop without a sound card. But i cant be bothered so bought a creative external 5.1 sound card.thx for your help!

    Use the optical.

If it's not working go to sounds in control panel and change the output device to digital.

Edit: You got a soundcard just because you couldn't set it up properly? Wow... The optical cable from the laptop is a MUCH better option.
