    help!-PC keeps killing RAM!!

my PC has gone dead again. im pretty sure the ram has died. if so this is the 2nd time in the space of a few months. why does this keep hapening? can anyone help!

ok my PC specs are (if anyone knows of ram killing problems with these parts)

    mobo: asus P5Q
    CPU: Q9450
    PSU:700w
    HDD: 640gb + 320gb + 320gb backup all western digital i think
    GFX: palit smart 9600GS 512mb ddr2
    Soundcard:M-audio delta 1010lt
    RAM:Corsair 4GB Kit (2x2GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Kit CL5 1.9V

only the GFX card is overclocked with rivatuner, although the system is controlled by EPU Six Engine which has been updated and clibrated recently

heres the story, ive had the system just over a year now, it came with 2gb of ram and i bought another 2gb matched, on about 10 months the ram died all of a sudden, i returned the system to the maker (pc specialist) and they said it was down to the bios being an old one and the PC wasnt configured for using 4gb of ram, and i didnt match the ram fully based on timings.

so they updated the bios and sent me a replacement 4gb of ram.

evrythings been fine upto now, a few month back i added the soundcard, and a few week back i upgraded the GFX card and installed all the latest drivers.

today ive turned the system on, it powers up, the fans come on, the hard drive is spinning but it doesnt start up. it seems its the same problem as before. the ram dying.

the systems out of its 1 year return to base warranty now, so i cant send it back. but the ram they sent me is only a few months old now. so should i ask for a replacement from them or from corsair themselves, and why does my PC keep killing my ram??!

What points to a RAM problem? Does the RAM work okay in a different PC?

Check the power supply voltages with a multimeter and perhaps replace the battery on the motherboard - probably CR2032. Try Poundland etc.

Have there been any other symptoms aside from when it has now started with just the fans spinning but nothing booting up? Do you have a different video card to try? Does it beep at all (perhaps hook up a buzzer if it doesn't have one connected), and if so what are the beeps?

    Re: help!-PC keeps killing RAM!!

the only reason i thnk its the ram because thats what was the fault last time. the exact same thing happened, turned it off 1 day and the next day it didnt boot-up. i returned it to PC specialist and they said that ram died because of the old BIOS, as above.

tried my old GFX card but still no joy, tried leaving it for awhile a few times to hear the windows start-up jingle but no jingle
no beep on start-up, same as before. everything powers up, the fans start, the HDD spin, the DVD tray opens & disc spins, i put the OS CD in the tray, all the lights come on but no beep, the keyboard or mouse lights dont come on and screen is dead
theres a green light on the motherboard when the power is switched on, so i dont think its the battery, ill try it but the system is only about 14months old
havnt got a system to try the ram in
ive tried swithcing 1 of the rams into another slot but no joy
an d i dont have any compatible DDR2 ram to test

    Re: help!-PC keeps killing RAM!!

ok it sback!! phewee! after i psoted last i went back n tried again. opened it up, put my anti-static wristband on, unplugged n replugged in some stuff, closed it up, pwoered it up and....it beeped! then nothing. tried powerup again an it beeped, the nvidia 9600 bios screen came on, then the p5q startup screen, i pressed to check the post bios and everything seemed ok. then pressed to boot-up and the screen stuck still.

next time i booted i unplugged the extra HDDs unplugged and re-plugged in all the cables at the back.and i got to the BIOS screen and everything seemed fine. it even booted to the OS.

then i tried it with the other HDDs plugged in and it booted fine.

can anyone tell me what just happened? i maybe suspect this time it was something to do with either the HDDs or the power supply in some form or other. i just thought it was the RAM because that was the problem last time and it was similar.

anyway dude above thanks for your help, but ill probs be back in about a week when it does it again.

    thanks
