Is there a problem with my HDD?

I used HD Tune to scan my Samsung Spinpoint HD753LJ and when checking the health of the drive it comes up with a yellow bar on ID: (B8) (unknown attribute). AFAIK yellow bars mean something might be wrong.

I have no idea what B8 means, but I thought someone on here might, so is there anything to worry about?

    Or possibly Atari.

Re: Is there a problem with my HDD?

I would backup first and then check the below link.

    http://www.argotronic.com/en/smart.php

B8 is the End-to-End error attribute.

This attribute is a part of HPs SMART IV technology and it means that after transferring through the cache RAM data buffer the parity data between the host and the hard drive did not match.

Re: Is there a problem with my HDD?

Actually it seems that B8 is vendor specific. Try using the Samsung diagnostic utils to see if you have a problem.

Re: Is there a problem with my HDD?

Hmmm, well I don't have any extra storage space to back up really. Could do with buying a new drive for back-up but don't have enough funds right now.

"and it means that after transferring through the cache RAM data buffer the parity data between the host and the hard drive did not match."

What does this actually mean in layman's terms?? And if this is the problem is it a big one?

    Burn to disc ?
End to end is what it sounds like. The 'Smart' tech checks the data in the way in and out of the cache (A temp holding pen on the HDD). In your case it apears to have failed the test. There must have been some corruption of the data.
I would however try the Samsung tools above.

Re: Is there a problem with my HDD?

I have yellow bars on both my HD502IJ drives (B8 also IIRC but I'll check later to be sure) so I don't think it's anything to worry about - probably just HD Tune misreading it.
