    Back-up / recovery disc error

    Hi,
I'm trying to burn a recovery / backup disc for my laptop (Acer 5536-744G). When I start the backup program and confirm the burning of the disc, it takes a good few minutes before the disc starts spinning and gives me an ETA. Once the burn has finished, and it was verifying the burn it came up with an error (0x9411).
I'm trying it again now, but what happens if I can't get it to burn properly. Can I take it back to the shop (PC World?). Surely it should be able to do this, shouldn't it ?

Re: Back-up / recovery disc error

It just failed for the second time. Pain in the A as I wanted to put Windows 7 onto it.

The detailed information from the failed write is below.
    Disc Type: DVD
    ODD Drive Letter : D
    ODD Name: TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633B
    ODD Type: MA_DVD_WRITE
    Description:
    Data error (cyclic redundancy check).
    File name: D:\IMAGES\WOP0001204E2TC012.SWM-----Firmware Version:AC01
    Error Code: 0x9411

I don't know whether the type of disc is likely to cause an error. The DVD's are only cheap ones, but have worked perfectly for everything else I've used. I just burnt my Win7 iso onto a DVD and it burnt correctly and verified fine. But then again this was on my desktop.

What do you think it could be ?

Re: Back-up / recovery disc error

I tried it again with the DVD, and it seems to fail at 4%. I decided to try an ASDA branded CD and it went through without a hitch. It also started to write alot faster than the DVD aswell. Probably because there was less data to gather.
Just bought some branded DVD-R and +R's and hoping that it works. Just need to get a copy of the disc and I can finally get 7 on there.
    Fingers Crossed.

Re: Back-up / recovery disc error

Seems like you have found the fix in this instance, bad media.

In the past I have gotten all sorts of errors so here is a list of things to check if anyone else has these issues...

    1. Make sure you have the most up to date firmware for your burner.
    2. Try burning at a lower speed
    3. Try different media
    4. Some CD burning software can actually cause burning errors so remove what you have and try something else, a good start is imgburn as it sometimes tells you what is interfering.
    5. If all else fails try another burner or the burner in another PC to identify the cause (OS or hardware).

    Hope this helps someone.

Re: Back-up / recovery disc error

Yep, try burning at 4x speed, and update the firmware in the writer if you can, even tho, it could be a dozen problems, however knock off the main reason 1st....

    Good-luck...

Re: Back-up / recovery disc error

    hi there!
    i found out the problem.
You should use only DVD-R media.
DVD+R or any other type is not working and giving "error 0x9411" while verification stage.

Re: Back-up / recovery disc error

Hey, I just had the same problem. I had to burn 3 dvd's.
The first one I burned was with a cheap dvd-rw , no problem.
The other 2 was no problem with Sony dvd+r
