Exclamation Win 7 64bit usable Ram Memory Problem

I'm having a bit of trouble with the available RAM on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit system.

    My Setup:
    ASRock p5b-v Motherboard
    Intel Q6600
    4x1gb RAM
    Nvidia GF8600gts 256mb

Just did a fresh clean install of Win7 64bit and expected to see the full 4gb of memory. It recognises that there is 4gb installed but only registers 2.75 usable. I was previously running 32bit XP Media Centre and I also had the same amount of usable RAM, 2.75gb and put that down to the 32bit limitation. But installing 64bit I expected to see full 4gb.

I have no idea what's wrong or how to fix? I've tried latest windows updates, memory remapping in bios which takes the 2.75gb down to 2gb RAM.

    Any help would be great.
    Thanks in advance

And yes it's definateley 64bit installed.

Re: Win 7 64bit usable Ram Memory Problem

enable memory remapping in your BIOS

edit - just noticed that you're using an ASRock. Don't be too supprised if you don't even have the option.

Re: Win 7 64bit usable Ram Memory Problem

I have already tried this option. When enabled it takes the usable memory down to 2.00gb.

    Thanks

If you have a 64bit OS, an Intel based board, a 64bit CPU, 4gig of RAM showing in CPU-Z....there isn't anything else that it can be apart from memory remapping.

I'm afraid it's due to ASRock being cheap by the looks of it. If memory remapping with the latest BIOS doesn't fix it, there isn't a way around it. This is why ASRock are cheap

You need to pop onto the ASRock website:
    http://www.asrock.com/Support/download.asp?c=All

Double check your model number as it doesn't seem to be listed. Is it an OEM board as that might explain it if it is correct?

    Hang on a sec?

You said ASRock P5V-B in your OP, but in your system specs, you list your motherboard as ASUS P5B-V!

    lol

P5B-V reeks of ASUS nomenclature, I think you're going crazy. I recommend an ASUS BIOS update for this!

Re: Win 7 64bit usable Ram Memory Problem

I am indeed going crazy... Asus it is, I have the wrong manual, just opened the case to double check.

Which bios update should I use, and how to do it?

Re: Win 7 64bit usable Ram Memory Problem

Download P5B-V BIOS 1211 and un-zip if it comes in a zip. Pop the file on a FAT32 USB memory stick and restart your PC with the USB drive plugged in. If you don't have a USB stick, sticking the file on the C: drive should also work.

Your ASUS BIOS should have something called EZ Flash, use this to update your BIOS. Once you start EZ Flash, select the appropriate drive letter and then the BIOS file you just downloaded.

While the BIOS updates, don't touch anything. It should let you know when it's done, restart, go into the BIOS to check the settings, sometimes they change after a BIOS flash.

Re: Win 7 64bit usable Ram Memory Problem

Bios updated to 1211 fine, but still got same problem. With memory remapping enabled win7 shows 2.00gb usable?
