Question computer cutting out on start up

Hi, I suspect my computer was hit with lighting. This morning I tried to start my computer and it starts and dies after a few seconds but I after the third or fourth time it started up fine, after i logged into windows it ran normal for about 5 minutes then it died again... now it just keeps cutting out when i try to start it up. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Actually that sounds like either a thermal shutdown or possibly a knackered PSU. We know that the thing can boot but shuts down before it gets that far. I would check and re-seat your Heat Sink. If that doesn't help try swapping in a new PSU. After that we're down to testing components individually.
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

Re: computer cutting out on start up

My computer does this at times, Starts ok, cuts out then restarts.
When its in the "cut out" phaze pressing the power button doesn't do anything to help.

I traced it back to where the large ATX connector is on the mobo - as moving that causes it to cut out so there's either a problem with the cable/connector (loose connection) or the socket for it on the board.

Have to agree, one of my systems did this when the pump died on the watercooling. Could be psu i suppose but i would tend to lean more towards thermal shut down.
