ps2 to monitor (rca to vga)

hey, just received my rca to vga cable (was called vga to rca) i thought this wouldn't matter although i have tried to set it up and it doesn't work i tried changing the output on my ps2 and still nothing not sure what to do now, have an optical cable for the sound just the visual aspect of it now, any ideas?

If it is a box rather than a cable, i suspect you may have got the wrong thing, as usually rca to vga requires electronics, best thing to do is look for reviews of it, or contact the seller.

its just a small cable, i have a ps2 slim, ending with rca, i have a rca to vga cable, then the vga end into a dell e207wfp

Different signalling as far as I am aware - so as roadkilluk says, it is usually a box rather than a simple cable

I tried this with my 360 which didnt work. I was running

360 > Component cable > Component to VGA > Monitor

This didnt work :/ But you can buy cables that go 360 > VGA I think. Might be the same with PS2?

The 360 VGA cable connects to different pinouts on the console, so afaik, no conversion required.

Did any of the PS2s have a VGA option from new?

ive got a hdmi to dvi for the ps3 in a few weeks, but the ps2 for now will have to played on the 15" crt tv

IIRC VGA uses a more complex set of timing signals and independent Red Green and Blue colour channels.
As roadkilluk pointed out without the use of electronics for signal conversion this isn't possible, I fear you have been duped.

You can buy these signal conversion boxes, but they can be quite expensive if memory serves.
