We use you Dyson hand held so much it needs a new battery pack now! Great for a quick clean out of PC dust filters (and anything else really).

    Re: Cleaning dusty case

Tights dude, not leggings, come on!

They're held on with tension. By using the feet section they were stretched quite tightly. Putting the metal HDD covers (3 per caddy) back on means the edges are held in by the covers and the screws.

The top grille is mesh with no surround, so the sharp edges mean the tights have something to grip.

It's not pretty from the inside, but I don't see that. I can take pics if you're interested.

Grab a pair of your tights (assuming you still wear those tights you told me about?), cut them off at the knees and stretch them over the plastic fan surrounds at the front of the case - disassemble the two HDD bays first obviously - you'll have to push the surround right into the foot section of the tights. Then just snip out a fan-sized hole at the back, leaving the tights covering the front - voila, budget dust filters

I did the same with an upper thigh piece of the tights on the BigBoy fan at the top. That's the only one I bothered to take a pic of though.

Before - dusty and wide open

    After - tightened up

Cost me nothing but time. Cost Mrs VW a pair of tights
The Big Boy fan is an exhaust fan though - putting tights over that would keep dust in, unless it's there to keep dust out while it's switched off but I just stick a piece of paper over it.

@Fortune117: Yeah using a compressor is a good idea (provided it's oil-free!!) it would probably work out cheaper than using canned air over time anyway (canned air is a rip-off IMO). A cheaper alternative to both is to use one of those squeeze bulbs or whatever they're called, you know like the ones you get in lens cleaning kits.

It's to keep the dust out, mild OCD means things must match, can't be having a piece of paper there

All other dust entry points are covered so only a bit of internal vacuuming is needed

According to Amazon the battery on it is a load of junk - is that true?

I'm actually fairly tempted to get one because I'm in a loft conversion and using a conventional hoover is a nightmare.

    Re: Cleaning dusty case

Not on mine, missus uses it every day, it doesn't have a massive amount of charge, probably just about enough to do a regular family car.

But it's incredibly useful, would buy another one for sure.

Depends on your expectations. Is the battery life short? Yes, only 1.5-3 minutes or so of continuous use. It's not a replacement for a proper vacuum cleaner for a full flat/house clean. It is however very useful for "quick" jobs which is what it was arguably designed for. Do you want strong suction for a few minutes or weak suction for 20? I definitely prefer the former. I have a full size Dyson for full cleans.

I read the Amazon reviews before buying mine and was originally hesitant until I concluded a lot of negative comments were posted by morons with unrealistic expectations that completely missed the purpose of the product.

    Re: Cleaning dusty case

I did suspect that they were being a bit unreasonable - I loved one comment about "my laptop works for hours after charging, why does this only last 10 minutes"... yeah because a processor has got similar power usage to an electric motor. Anyone can spot the difference there.

The problem that I'm having at the moment is that lugging a full-size Dyson up two flights of stairs and then bending down to use it under a 4ft ceiling at the edges of the room is absolutely killing my back - consequently I hardly ever vacuum the carpet, and then suffer from asthma. All good fun . Anyway, more to the point, something like this would probably be a good go-between, so that inbetween the big ones it doesn't look like a complete mess up there

    Re: Cleaning dusty case

Why have we started discussing battery life on hoovers xD

I would invest in an air compressor. Would probably cost less than a dyson handheld and it does the job well.

    Re: Cleaning dusty case

I use my father in laws air compressor. Great big thing, takes about 5 minutes to get a case/computer looking absolutely brand new. Make sure you don't make the mistake I made the first time and assume that a hoover will be able to suck it up, the hoover really can't keep up. Take the case outside and do it there, else you'll have a seriously narked other half.

My case has been seriously bad a few times (due to where the PC is kept) and a compressor has never failed to get it spotless.

You are all mad in the heads, hovering pc's wraping tights around vent holes, blowing them regularly.

Between all the talk of tights, hoovers & blowing I thought I had stumbled into a swinger forum

    Re: Cleaning dusty case

i use a hoover, it works pretty well. Also i ground myself just in case for any stray static. For the fans i use a moise cloth & wipe each blade (i know it tedious lol) and let them dry for abit before i put them back into the pc. A DeHumidifier also helps at reducing dust abit...
