Graphics card problem - is it terminal?

Hi, it seems like my x1950pro is on it's last legs. whenever i play a game after a short while it seems to crash. monitor goes off, audio still plays, have to power the machine off with the power button.
is it possible that it could just be overheating or is it more likely that i need a new graphics card?

i have tried it in both windows 7 x64 and windows xp 32bit in several different games and always the same result...

can i monitor the temp of the graphics card?

    cheers

oh, and if it is terminal can anyone recommend a nice cheap graphics card to replace it. i missed out on the £54 GTS250 from scan...

Overheating is quite possible - is it well ventilated and is the heatsink/fan full of dust?

Yes you can monitor graphics card temps. Everest will do that, as will several other bits of software.

If it's not overheating, then it's probably borked.
