I did have something like this previously - the laptop screen worked fine in safe mode but not in normal mode. Normal mode was loading a display driver that was corrupted or the display settings were wrong for the actual display (problems of trying other settings).

Can you attach an external screen & then run up in normal mode, check settings and change?

Could be that you have set the laptop to display out via the vga connection. Ususally some combination of Function and a F key. Doesnt come into force until the drivers are enabled.

So Boot into VGA mode rather then safe and the adjust your screen res to what you need and set it to display to notebook only and you should be ok.

    Hope that helps.

Also, try to boot in, and then hit the Windows Key and P. If it's a Windows 7 PC, it will open the Projector/Display Menu. You'll want the first box or any one after that. The fourth one, is not what you want.

I've found out that this has happened to me before, where it will only put out into VGA on my notebook.
