Graphics Card update Woes...

Anyone got any ideas as I've exhausted all the usual problems and this one is starting to drive me crazy.

Last night, I aquired a 4850 to put into my system to replace the age old 7800 card that is in the system. I removed all traces of the nvidia drivers before shutting down and removing the 7800 and installed the 4850. All power connections are connected perfectly connected and secure so a loose cables not the issue.

This is when the troubles start...

On boot-up everything appeared to be fine and the drivers with CCC installed as normal with the GPU version of F@H launching and running as intended.

However, as soon as I loaded any game, it would crash or corrupt the display within 3-10 minutes of launching the game.

Wolfenstein - Random lockups and pauses before glitching and then returning to normal.
Half-Life 2 - Crashed on loading via Steam
HL2DM - Crashed again on loading.
Anno 1404 - crashed after loading a save game.
Mass Effect 2 - random glitches and corruption appearing randomly.

PC specs are as shown under my system tab so I know all my hardware is upto the task of running this card and when I put my 7800 back in the system eventually it was all fine ( a few scary BIOS beeps which were easily rectified ) and running as normal as soon as I loaded the nvidia drivers back onto the system.

Are you sure the card is in working order?

If you can verify it is, I would start looking for a BIOS update for your motherboard.

Maybe a BIOS update is needed to fully support the 4850 ? The only other thing i can think of is that it was over-heating after a bout of Folding and so when you lauched the game thats all it could take - im sure you guys know how hot the 48xx can run!

BIOS on Motherboard and everything is the latest release. I'm quite anal about checking for BIOS/Driver updates at times

All drivers are the latest and greatest versions from the respective websites and the card works fine in the test rig at work so I can only imagine it's one of the rare.

Case is cooled with a lot of fans... I've got 4 80mm fans in there, along with 4 120 mm fans and also a 60mm fan from an old AMD CPU cooler fan over the northbridge keeping it cool.

My fan which displays the air temperature shows a temp of 22-28 degrees.

I think it's going to be one of these weird incompatibility issues that can arise from time to time.
