Western Digital external hard drive issue

I have a western digital external hard drive which has around 300GB of space. Yesterday I decided to back up and remove form my laptop, some holidays vids and pictures that were taking up space. Now I checked I had enough space (it has 291GB left) so I could back up a large video which is 4.11 GB avi file. But it says the fiel si too large for the destination file system. This has really confused me as I grouped together some small videos (around 1.96GB) and it transferred them fine. Any ideas as what is going on as there is enough space left.

    Thanks

If your external drive is formatted to FAT32, the maximum file size is 4Gb (actually 4GB-1). As the error message says, the file is too big for the filesystem regardless of the size (or free space) of the volume.

Ah right thanks I'll zip file it instead.
