    PS3 and wireless

So, I decided to move from Talktalk/Tiscali to O2 via Plusnet. As Tiscali bundle up both phone line and BB, Plusnet first took back my phone line to BT and activated it but now I don't have broadband for 5 days till they set it up!

Luckily, I have a generous neighbour ...whom I don't know... who is using an unsecured wireless network. I am currently piggybacking on that Wireless network from my PC ( Thank God this motherboard comes with a WiFi feature! )
Now, the PS3 downstairs can't see this network. Maybe cos the signal is pretty bad by the time it reaches downstairs.

Is there a way for my PC to act as a booster so that my PS3 can connect to my PC wirelessly and thereby use the net ?

    Thank u...

I have a Belkin N router as well if it's of any help.

You need to look at a wireless range extender. Belkin make one, no idea how good it is though.

Either the extender, or get some kind of home network plug that runs off your power sockets in your home.

    Re: PS3 and wireless

If you went for homeplugs you'd need to bridge the Wireless connection to the ethernet port on your PC, then plug the PC into the homeplug too. So for the PS3 to get online the route to the internet would be through the PC then over the wireless.

I was talking to a network guy at work and he suggested....

put another wireless card in my PC and bridge with my existing wireless card.

    Gonna work?

    Re: PS3 and wireless

You could use your existing router to do it, connect the PC via ethernet then the ps3 to your wireless router, use ICS to share your wifi connection on the PC, job jobed

No no no.. router is out of play. I am piggybacking on someone's unsecured network.

Yesterday got good speeds of 9.85Mbps

Tried adding a 2nd WiFI card and bridged both , PS3 didnt pick it up
Tried ad hoc network with one card, no luck
Tried setting one to conenct to the wireless network and told another to be AP and bridged - no luck again!

    Re: PS3 and wireless

You can use the router as a wireless hub and share the internet connection on your PC.

    So:

    PS3 > Routeer vis wireless
PC > Router via wired ethernet
    Share network connection from PC

Isn't using someones unsecured wireless illigeal?

Yes it is, what would be more intresting is if the other person had left the wireless unsecured for a reason.

In what way, to access your PC while you are connected?
