Spy ware/ ad aware remover
For the last few days Hexus seems to be slower than it used to :| Not sure if it is me, the site or my laptop. By slower I don't mean taking ages to load but seem to take a fraction longer on some threads or articles.
I'm running vista with kaspersky 2009 as my anti-virus and want to find a good spy ware/ ad aware remover. Any recommendations? I used to use Ad-Aware but I have read that it has problems with Kaspersky 2009.

Temporarily uninstall Kaspersky to rule that out as the cause of the slowness.
If it's still slow after that, do a full Malwarebytes scan. There are other good utilities too: rootrepeal, rootalyzer, autoruns, process monitor, process explorer, GMER, smssniff to look for dodgy-looking traffic, tcpview, and others I can't remember right now.
Try changing your DNS to either OpenDNS (208.67.220.220 / 208.67.222.222) or Google (8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4)
At the end of all possible diagnostics, install Microsoft Security Essentials as an alternative to Kaspersky and see what you think of it.
Re: Spy ware/ ad aware remover
I can bet it is not Kaspersky as I have never had any problems with it at all. I will most likely try Malwarebytes at the weekend and see how that does.
Re: Spy ware/ ad aware remover
Finding the cause of the slowness is, mostly, a process of elimination. One thing you must eliminate is Kaspersky. I often see reports of various AV programs causing slowness - the popular problematic AV at the moment is AVG interacting oddly with ZoneAlarm.
If you don't want to uninstall it temporarily, try a completely different PC to see if the only common thing is your internet connection.
Re: Spy ware/ ad aware remover
I'd also recommend MSE as an all in one package. But one site being subjectively a fraction slower isn't really guaranteed to be anything at your end.
Re: Spy ware/ ad aware remover
If slowness is the problem. I normally find the fastest thing is to copy the data off and wipe the system, when you start fiddling too much you never end up happy, bite the bullet early.

I'm starting to think the same thing. This all started on tuesday night and other sites seems to be a fraction slower. But by the next morning all was with facebook, IGN, amazon etc it was just Hexus.
All do a scan anyway as I'm sure there is some ad-aware on here somewhere.
Re: Spy ware/ ad aware remover
I used to rely on AdAware and Spybot, but I must admit to having moved largely to Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware these days.
Re: Spy ware/ ad aware remover
Spybot and Malwarebytes are good programs. A windows reinstall is normally best in the long run if you have not done one recently, even though the short term hassle of backing up data and reinstalling everything can put you off :)

Windows 'Easy-transfer' has made this a lot easier for Vista and 7 users.
Re: Spy ware/ ad aware remover
Does anyone use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware together with Kaspersky 2009? Have you had to change any settings such as "On KIS settings on settings>threats and exclusions>under threats click on settings>under adware and other programs ticke the only box not ticked "other programs" ???
