    Log into the machine and shut it down. At least, that's how I do it.

    Edit: Shutdown via magic packet can't be that common... imagine what the bad people on the internet could do with it!

    Send a carefully crafted packet to BSOD the machine?

    You need more than a single magic packet to convince a machine to shut down. The lowest level you'll get is vPro.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I highly recommend opening up such a secure reliable method to the great online world. Seriously I do.

    if you have connection to the PC via VPN and you know the admin username and password you can do it with a little command in DOS shutdown -m \\pcname

    I figured as much with the security aspect, but then again, you never know. At present I use LogMeIn and do Start > Shutdown

    I'm lazy, but it works.

    I dont yet have VPN, but have been considering it. Perhaps thats another question I'll ask

    Magic Packet can't perform shutdown... only wake.

    VPN in and 'shutdown -m \\ip_addy' ?

    Hey bud...I was actually looking for the same thing...I did come across something quite useful though, It's called GRC - just google the phrase "GRC gmail" and you'll find it quick. It's an app that runs in the background of the PC you wana do a shutdown on. You send an email or what I do is sms an email to the gmail account it is set up to monitor, it picks up the shutdown command and voila, almost like a magic packet shutdown. I would advise you set up a special gmail account for this, I honestly don't trust any app with my gmail login details. Hope this helps...
