Abit AS8-V
Experienced start up problems with my computer recently. From Forums (can't remember where) got suggestion that perhaps it was the BIOS chip. Replaced the Bios chip - same problem.
Post Code Display starts at 8.3 then displays 9.6 and then 9F The next time trying to start the sequence is 8.3, 9.6 and then 2
We checked power supply, memory, and replaced video card to verify they weren't the problem.
Our assumption was that the problem was in the board. So ordered a new(refurbished) and installed that. Same problem.
In ordering the refurbished board I didn't notice it was an AS8 and not an AS8-V
What is the difference between an AS8- V and an AS8?
It now seems that perhaps the problem is not the board.
Any Suggestions
I am buffaloed

Re: Abit AS8-V
What exactly happens, does the system just hang after or during POST?

Re: Abit AS8-V
No I mean where does it hang, does it get into the OS at all or do you see those messages before the OS starts booting?

Re: Abit AS8-V
It does not get to OS at all. Just plain dies after the post code sequence

Re: Abit AS8-V
If you have any spares you could experiment with try swapping things out; motherboard, CPU, PSU, GPU, RAM until the problem goes away. The testing might have missed something depending on how you tested them. It does sound like a motherboard problem so you could try that motherboard in another computer, just don't connect the HDD of the other computer as it may not boot if you're using a different platform - try booting from a Windows disc or Linux LiveCD instead for example. Also what power supply are you using?
