    PC help?

    Hello,
Iv been having some pc problems lately when playing games i get big FPS drops for a split second time so for example im at a nice 125 then it just drops but it to fast to see what it drops to then come back to 125 but in-game you can feel it stutter.

problem appeared after i installed the Coolit ECO so i took it off but my old cooler on and still had the same problem. So i thought i might of tightened the ECO to much and squashed my CPU so i put my old CPU in, i had the same problem so i went out and bought i new motherboard thinking i might of damaged my motherboard same thing, I have tested every set up i can i still have the same problem.

I have checked temps when in-game and they seem normal
i have downloaded the latest drivers

    Games
    Quakelive
    L4D2 (Lowest setting 800x640)
CSS (lowest setting, not as bad on this thought)

    Specs
    AMD Athlon II 240 2.8Ghz
    Coolit ECO ALC
    512mb XFX 5670
    2gb DDR2 800mhz
    550watt OCZ
    WD 250GB
    Antec P180
    Acer 1280x1024 19" Monitor

Are you sure it's just not lag from servers? Or a problem with your internet connection.

    Re: PC help?

My first thought would be ATI powerplay. You could try forcing 3d clockspeeds to disable powerplay with something like MSI afterburner.

Also worth seeing if there's a driver issue causing those spikes.

Thanks,DPC Latency Checker seems to be showing similar results to my in-game problem.
Do you know any good programs to find the fault drivers or is it just a case of going thought them all until you find the right one?

    You can always use verifier?

    • Go to Run and type verifier
    • Create standard settings
    • Select all drivers
    • Restart the computer and if there are any faulty drivers there will be an error message telling you what it is

Hey , I tried that and when i rebooted it said
    "steam.exe" (Mulit field blob)
    (pserialized)

so i went to uninstall steam then i got a blue screen saying Windows has found the faulty drivers if this keeps happening boot in safe mode so i re-booted same thing, so i booted up into safe mode and went to remove steam that way but Windows wont let me uninstall it. How can i get rid of steam if i keep getting blue screen in normal mode and in safe mode windows wont let me ?

    Re: PC help?

    ok,
i turned verifier off and uninstalled steam and some more stuff i didn't need and re-booted and i was still getting the same problem so i tried the verifier again to make sure their wasn't any other faulty drivers and it didn't come up with anything then i got the blue screen so i turned verifier off again.
Then i checked what drivers that were not enabled ( Enhanced I/O Verification and Low Resources Simulation ) so i enabled them ,rebooted and still the same problem.

iv never experienced like this before and cant find anything similar on the net.

    Re: PC help?

I would try to do a clean install of windows in this case, and then testing...

memtest, prime95 (blend, for a few hours), HDD tests (surface test too), then gaming, if you have problems on a clean system then you can probably figure out what is causing it with these testing methods
